Royal Caribbean celebrated the start of construction on the fifth ship in the Icon class with a keel-laying ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. Scheduled to debut in 2028, this new ship will offer a revolutionary combination of excitement, relaxation, family experiences, and entertainment, details of which will be announced in the coming months.
During the keel-laying ceremony, the first large steel building block was placed in the dry dock at the shipyard, where the ship will take shape over the next two years. The keel forms the ship's backbone along the bottom and center of the hull and provides the foundation for the ship's construction. To commemorate this milestone, Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku placed a layer of newly minted coins beneath the steel block before it was lifted into position, following a shipbuilding tradition that seals good luck for the ship's voyage.
The fifth Icon-class ship will continue the revolutionary Icon-class range, which continues to redefine the world's best family vacations, followed by the sixth in 2029 and the seventh in 2030.
