The Port of Barcelona today took another step in reorganizing cruise ship activity at the Adossat Wharf and in reducing the number of terminals from seven to five. The Board of Directors approved a revision of the concession granted to Creuers del Port de Barcelona for the operation of passenger terminals A and B. This revision will allow for the construction of a new terminal C and, once it is operational, the demolition of the current terminals A and B. It is worth noting that the last operation in the current terminal C will take place on November 1st, after which the process of emptying and demolishing the building will begin.
The action presented thus specifies one of the steps foreseen in the agreement signed in July 2025 between the Port of Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council to reorganize and make cruise activity in the city more sustainable, which establishes the reduction of the number of terminals from seven to five.
The project presented by Creuers del Port de Barcelona plans to demolish the current Terminal C and build a new one on the same site, with a constructed area of 11,253 m², sized to meet the current and future requirements of cruise activity and incorporate the highest environmental standards, such as photovoltaic generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to connect ships to the electrical grid, among others.
The proposal includes relocating the existing roundabout at the Adossat dock, developing the access roads and intermodal areas for the future terminal, and constructing a new passenger boarding and disembarking walkway. The terminal will be public, meaning it will be open to the general public. The planned investment amounts to €104.5 million, of which more than €50 million is earmarked for the future terminal building.
The measure approved today by the Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona extends the concession for Creuers del Port de Barcelona, which until now ended in 2030 and was renewable, until 2033. With the approved modification, the concession for the new Terminal C will end in 2050 and will be renewable until 2053.
Comprehensive reconstruction of the pier
When the new Terminal C comes into service, Terminals A and B will be demolished, a preliminary step to the renovation works of this area of the Adossat dock, a section of about 660 meters in length which, after more than 70 years since its construction, requires a complete renovation.
The Port of Barcelona is working on a rehabilitation project to maintain the alignment with the rest of the Adossat Wharf. The tender for the construction project will be launched in the coming months. Work is expected to begin at the end of 2029, with a 24-month construction period and a budget of €42 million.
