Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has established a partnership with Liverpool Cruise Port, managed by Global Ports Holding, through the Next-Gen Horizons program, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals in the Liverpool region.
The initiative will showcase the career opportunities offered by the cruise and maritime industries, both on board and ashore, through activities at the Liverpool cruise port and on Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' fleet of smaller ships: Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral.
Representatives from Liverpool Cruise Port, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, and participating educational institutions from the Liverpool region and surrounding areas met aboard the Bolette in Liverpool to sign a joint commitment. The agreement aims to expand opportunities for young people, strengthen links between education and industry, and boost students' confidence in exploring their future career options.
Through guided visits to the port, tours of the ships, meetings with industry professionals and practical activities, students will be able to learn firsthand about different career paths related to port operations, engineering, logistics, hospitality and sustainability.
Dominic Simpson, Head of Environment and Sustainability at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “We are delighted to continue developing our partnership with Liverpool Cruise Port through the Next-Gen Horizons Liverpool program, which helps young people discover the many career opportunities offered by the cruise industry and the maritime sector.
“Our relationship with Liverpool goes back more than 20 years, and we are proud to continue supporting the city and future generations. By offering young people the opportunity to experience the industry firsthand and hear from the people who make our voyages possible, we hope to encourage them to consider a career both at sea and on land, while helping them gain confidence and network to take their next steps.”.
John Mawer, Managing Director of GPH UK Ports, added: “Liverpool Cruise Port is an international gateway with strong local roots. Next-Gen Horizons takes our commitment to the community to a new level, working alongside Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and our educational partners to help young people in the area discover maritime careers and find their place in the future of this industry.”.
The initiative continues the collaboration on sustainability and community engagement that Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Liverpool Cruise Port launched in 2026, reinforcing their shared commitment to the Liverpool region and its inhabitants.
As part of its community outreach activities, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines welcomed 274 young people on board its ships and in its shore-based offices in 2026 to help them learn about the variety of career opportunities available both within the company and in the wider maritime industry.
