TUI Cruises celebrated the official christening of the Mein Schiff Flow on June 20th in Trieste, the second ship of the new InTUItion class and one of the most anticipated additions to the German company's fleet.
The ceremony, conceived as a grand experiential event under the motto “Go with the Flow”, brought together thousands of guests on board and marked the beginning of a new stage for the shipping company after the entry into service of the Mein Schiff Relax in 2025.
The celebration was notable for breaking with some of the usual traditions of cruise ship christenings. For the first time in TUI Cruises' history, three godmothers shared the spotlight: Julia, Annabelle, and Karin, three regular customers of the company from different generations, selected from hundreds of applications submitted by the Mein Schiff passenger community. With this choice, the cruise line wanted to pay tribute to its own guests and reinforce the emotional connection that characterizes the brand.
Far from being a conventional ceremony, the christening transformed into a grand festival spread across different areas of the ship. Passengers enjoyed audiovisual installations, artistic performances, acrobatic shows, interactive experiences, and a variety of offerings related to wellness, art, and gastronomy, reflecting the relaxed and flexible travel concept that inspires the new InTUItion class.
Music played a central role throughout the event. Irish singer Rea Garvey gave an exclusive concert on June 19, while Tim Bendzko provided the soundtrack for the christening night with a special performance coinciding with the official ceremony. The program also included appearances by personalities such as chef Tim Raue, actress Maren Kroymann, artist Christian Awe, dancer Linh Nguyen, and renowned dancers Erich Klann and Oana Nechiti, among others.
During the ceremony, TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meier highlighted that the Mein Schiff Flow represents "a new way of traveling, marked by lightness, connection and the freedom to enjoy the trip at your own pace," also emphasizing the symbolism of having, for the first time, three godmothers to represent the diversity of guests who are part of the Mein Schiff community.
The new ship was delivered to the cruise line by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri just days before its christening. With a capacity for approximately 4,000 passengers, the Mein Schiff Flow incorporates the main innovations developed for the InTUItion class, including new open spaces, a design more connected to the sea, a wide range of dining options, and a reinforced commitment to well-being and sustainability. The ship operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG), a technology that significantly reduces emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.
After completing its inaugural season in the Mediterranean, the Mein Schiff Flow will move to Hamburg this autumn to begin a program in Northern Europe. It will then operate from Kiel on itineraries in the Baltic Sea and Scandinavia, strengthening TUI Cruises' presence in some of its most important strategic markets.
With the addition of the Mein Schiff Flow, TUI Cruises continues to expand a fleet that already exceeds ten ships and consolidates the new InTUItion generation as the axis of its future growth within the European premium segment.
