P&O Cruises and Cunard partner with Sea Sense to promote coastal safety and ocean education in Southampton schools

Sister cruise lines P&O Cruises and Cunard are collaborating with Sea Sense, Tide School's coastal safety and marine education program, designed to help children better understand the sea and encourage care for the marine environment.

The initiative, launched to coincide with World Oceans Day, involves sponsoring eight schools in Southampton over a two-year period. The program will benefit schools located in the Southampton Test and Southampton Itchen constituencies.

Sea Sense teaches students to understand ocean behavior through five fundamental elements: tides, currents, winds, waves, and rip currents. The project is based on practical, preventative education that aims to increase young people's confidence and awareness before they encounter potential risks in coastal environments.

As part of the initiative, students will also participate in monthly activities of the Sea Guardian, focused on ocean conservation, responsible behavior on the coast and positive actions for the environment, including beach clean-up days.

Employees of P&O Cruises and Cunard will collaborate with Sea Sense and participating schools in various community coastal clean-up activities, thus expanding the volunteer programs that both companies already develop and that contribute data on waste to the Marine Conservation Society's annual marine litter report.

This partnership with Sea Sense is a meaningful way to help young people develop confidence and respect for the ocean. Through hands-on education and participatory activities, Sea Sense provides essential knowledge that can help keep them safe and, at the same time, inspire a new generation committed to the sea.”.
