The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) has defined the plan for tourist cruise ship calls at the port of Ibiza for 2026 with the aim of ensuring orderly operations, preserving mobility in the port environment and offering a quality service to passengers visiting the island.
The planned schedule includes 205 cruise ship calls throughout the year, organized according to the planning criteria established by the APB to make this traffic compatible with the rest of the port activity.
Berth scheduling follows the procedure that governs the scheduling of regular liner vessels and cruise ships. In the port of Ibiza, cruise traffic is concentrated in the berths located in the Botafoc area, which include the pontoons and the Botafoc breakwater pier, and the adjacent pier. The remaining piers in the port are designated for regular coastal shipping lines that connect the island with other ports in the archipelago and the Spanish mainland.
One of the main planning criteria is to stagger the arrival of ships to avoid overlaps with the embarkation and disembarkation operations of regular ferry lines and to ensure a smooth flow of passengers in the terminal. For this reason, cruise ships enter the port from 11:30 a.m. onwards, except for previously authorized exceptions.
Furthermore, the schedule takes into account the rate of passenger disembarkation so that it does not exceed 3,000 passengers per hour, a threshold that allows for adequate mobility in the terminal and avoids saturations in associated transport systems, such as the water bus, the urban bus or the taxi service.
The plan anticipates that, on most days, the port will receive one or two cruise ships, while the coincidence of three ships is limited to specific days and is managed through the time distribution of arrivals and the use of different berths.
In exceptional cases, a larger number of ships may coincide when one of them is smaller or makes stops with different schedules, which allows maintaining operational balance and avoiding peaks in passenger concentration.
With this planning system, the Balearic Islands Port Authority seeks to reconcile cruise traffic activity with the operation of the port and the mobility of the city, guaranteeing an orderly management of port calls and a satisfactory experience for visitors arriving in Ibiza by sea.
The schedule may be adjusted throughout the year depending on operational needs or changes in shipping lines' itineraries, always maintaining the safety, efficiency and quality of service criteria that govern the port's activity
