The cruise season in the Port of the Balearic Islands is showing signs of recovery, gradually surpassing pre-pandemic figures and even registering an increase in sales compared to 2023.
According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the overall outlook is positive, although there are disparities between the different Balearic Islands.
In the case of the Port of Palma, CLIA Director Alfredo Serranonoted that although it is still below 2019 levels, it is recovering and getting closer, with a 4% increase in voyages compared to the previous year. While the occupancy level is yet to be determined, sales are solid and are being made further in advance than in previous years.
The situation is different in Ibiza and Menorca. In Ibiza, a 4% improvement has also been recorded, indicating a recovery that is now a reality. In the port of Maó, with a 15% increase in port calls, the worst of the pandemic is also behind them.
Another positive indicator for the season in the Islands is the commissioning of new ships, as well as the performance of other destinations, such as the Canary Islands or the Caribbean, which have already proven their operational effectiveness.
Alfredo Serrano points out that customers are very interested in spending their holidays on a cruise. Regarding the origin of cruise passengers in the Balearic Islands, Germans and Scandinavians are expected to be the most numerous once again, along with French and Italians due to the archipelago's geographical proximity.
