Disney Adventure, Disney's largest ship, changes everything

Disney Cruise Line 's new flagship features seven themed areas, the company's first attractions at sea, and an unparalleled entertainment offering to entertain passengers on nonstop cruises.

Article from CruisesNews magazine no. 78 – September 2026

CruisesNews 78Disney Cruise Line has taken a significant leap in size with the Disney Adventure, the largest ship in its fleet and the company's first permanently based ship in Asia.

It was at the end of 2022 when the company acquired the Global Dream vessel, 70% built at the MV Werften shipyards for the Genting HK conglomerate, which had gone bankrupt after the pandemic.

Disney Cruise Line announced that it would completely refurbish the ship according to its needs, and that is why it has taken a little over 3 years to see the result.

With a gross tonnage of 208,108, 20 decks and capacity for up to 6,700 passengers, the new ship began its cruises from Singapore in March 2026.

The result is a ship with a different concept than previous generations of Disney Cruise Line ships, where themed areas and attractions take center stage. The Disney Adventure offers 3- and 4-night cruises where the ship is the destination; there are no stops.

One of the main differences compared to other Disney Cruise Line ships is the absence of the traditional large central atrium that characterizes much of the fleet.

Instead, the ship distributes much of its public space around Town Square, inspired by Disney princesses, and Disney Imagination Garden, conceived as the outdoor heart of the onboard experience.

Disney Imagination Garden is an outdoor park in the style of the Boardwalk on Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class cruise ships, or the World Promenade on MSC Cruises' World-class ships, and it concentrates part of the ship's entertainment programming.

The space hosts shows such as Avengers Assemble! and Duffy and the Friend Ship and also serves as a stage for family activities and character meet-and-greets.

Town Square, meanwhile, is a large two-story hall open on the sides with a giant screen and chairs and tables, themed around the classic princesses of the Disney universe.

Seven Disney, Pixar, and Marvel Worlds:
Disney Adventure is organized around seven themed areas: Disney Imagination Garden, Disney Discovery Reef, San Fransokyo Street, Marvel Landing, Toy Story Place, Town Square, and Wayfinder Bay. Each has its own unique atmosphere, dining options, and activities.

Among them all, San Fransokyo Street stands out, inspired by Big Hero 6. The space recreates a city that combines the aesthetics of San Francisco and Tokyo and includes shops, cinemas, a video game room and the Edge and Vibe youth clubs.

Each zone combines shops, restaurants, entertainment and activities, reminiscent of the land-based Disney theme park zones.

The Marvel Landing theme area is an area located on the upper decks that incorporates the first actual attractions of Disney Cruise Line.

The star attraction is Ironcycle Test Run, an Iron Man-inspired roller coaster very similar to Bolt, the one found on Carnival's Excellence-class ships. But Ironcycle Test Run, with a track over 250 meters long and reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h, is the longest roller coaster currently installed at sea.

The area also includes Pym Quantum Racers, which is a toy car circuit, and Groot Galaxy Spin, which is the typical fairground attraction with arms rotating on the central axis.

The upper decks also house Toy Story Place, with a children's water park and access to two larger slides. Opposite this is the only pool in the central area, next to four jacuzzis. Wayfinder Bay is the aft pool area, dominated by a large screen, with semicircular tiered seating; it is also used for shows such as Moana: Call of the Sea.

Further up the deck, there are two pool areas: the Infinity Bar with three infinity pools overlooking Wayfinder Bay, and forward, the Private Sundeck, an area for Concierge Class passengers with a pool, jacuzzis, and Balinese beds. The pool has an awning for shade, and Concierge Class passengers also have access to an exclusive indoor lounge. Not far from there is the Opulence Spa by Elemis.

A ship designed to keep kids entertained.
The Disney Adventure maintains Disney Cruise Line's family-oriented approach but significantly expands the number and variety of activities available for children and teenagers. It essentially changes the cruise concept, as there are no ports of call, so you have to fill your time with activities.

Kids' clubs are organized by age and combine characters, games, and immersive activities. Disney's Oceaneer Club, for example, is aimed at children aged 3 to 10 and uses spaces inspired by different Disney, Pixar, and Marvel universes.

Entertainment plays a central role in Disney Adventure's programming. At the Walt Disney Theatre, the main attraction is Remember, starring WALL-E and Eve, while other venues host productions, performances, and character meet-and-greets.

The ship also maintains one of the characteristic elements of Disney Cruise Line: fireworks at sea.

On the Disney Adventure, The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky show uses music from The Lion King and is integrated into the ship's nighttime programming.

Dining: Disney also plays with rotation.
Regarding dining and restaurants, one of the differentiating elements of Disney Cruise Line is maintained: the rotating shift, whereby passengers change restaurants every day, although they keep the same waiters.

Disney Adventure features six rotating restaurants organized into three pairs: Hollywood Spotlight Club/Navigator's Club, Animator's Palate/Animator's Table, and Enchanted Summer Restaurant/Pixar Market Restaurant. Passengers visit one restaurant from each pair during their cruise.

The theming of the restaurants, like that of the entire ship, is truly spectacular. Most of them are included in the fare, except for Palo Trattoria, a specialty restaurant inspired by Luca; and Mike & Sulley's Flavors of Asia, which offers four ways to enjoy it: a full-service Japanese grill, a lively Teppanyaki lounge, an Omakase-style dinner, and an al fresco sushi-sashimi experience. This restaurant is inspired by the famous Japanese-style restaurant from Pixar's animated film Monsters, Inc.

Pixar Market Restaurant operates as a buffet during the day and becomes a main restaurant at night. It's a really large area with different Pixar themes.

There are many small restaurants offering fast food throughout the ship, and some bars even have hot dogs.

Staterooms and Family Spaces:
The staterooms maintain signature Disney Cruise Line features, such as the bathroom divided into two areas, to make life easier for families. The staterooms are themed around Frozen, Encanto, The Lion King, Up, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, Jasmine, Aladdin, the Elsa Suite, and the Anna Suite, both spectacular. The main differences are the headboard and the colors of the carpeting, curtains, and sofa.

In the balcony cabins we can choose between a sea view or a view of Imagination Garden, and there are also cabins overlooking the Wayfinder Bay aft pool.

A Different Cruise Experience:
The upgrade also changes the way you experience a cruise. Compared to previous Disney Cruise Line ships, the Adventure distributes the experience around large themed areas that function simultaneously as spaces for leisure, dining, shopping, and entertainment. The company is thus moving from using theming as an integrated element in the ship's design to making it the organizing principle for a large part of its decks.

The addition of attractions like Ironcycle Test Run also introduces an activity that until now was not part of the Disney Cruise Line product: a theme park-type experience integrated into the ship itself.

Singapore as a new hub of operations
The Disney Adventure offers three and four night cruises departing from and returning to Singapore, nonstop, making the ship itself the main destination of the experience.

It's a perfect "break" concept for those living near Singapore, or it can be combined with a stay in Singapore and Malaysia for those traveling from further afield.

Disney Cruise Line, from 4 ships to 13 ships in eight years
. The company has grown very slowly in recent decades. It received its first ship, the Disney Magic, in 1998, and the Disney Wonder in 1999. It wasn't until 2011 that the Disney Dream arrived, and in 2012 the Disney Fantasy.

A decade later, in 2022, with the arrival of the Disney Wish and the acquisition of the Global Dream to turn it into Disney Adventure, an expansion process began that will lead the brand to have 13 ships by 2030.

It currently has 8 ships, because in addition to the initial four, it already has three Wish class ships and the Adventure.

The Disney Believe, a Wish-class ship, will arrive in late 2027, and a fifth ship of this class will arrive in 2029.

Between 2029 and 2030 it will receive three ships of a new, smaller class, around 105,000 tons, which will be built in Meyer Werft.
