Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. has signed a strategic alliance agreement with AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises, both belonging to the European cruise division of Carnival Corporation, during the World Travel Market fair in London.
The multi-year agreement reinforces La Romana's position as a strategic homeport for cruise ships in the Caribbean, providing long-term operational and commercial stability for ship deployment, international air connections, and infrastructure development.
One of the main advantages of this alliance is that Central Romana owns and operates both La Romana International Airport and the destination's cruise terminal. This integration allows for a unified platform for flights and cruises, facilitating schedule coordination, air connectivity, and passenger transfers.
The alliance is based on 30 years of collaboration with Costa Cruises, which began in 1996 on Catalina Island, and on 23 years of relationship with AIDA Cruises, which established La Romana as a home port in the Caribbean in 2003.
“This agreement represents a significant milestone in our long history of collaboration,” said Luis Emilio Rodríguez Amiama, Director of the La Romana Airport and Cruise Port at Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. “These mutual commitments reinforce La Romana’s position as a strategic homeport and hub for flights and cruises in the Caribbean, fostering an increase in the number of passengers and flights and creating new opportunities for the Dominican Republic.”.
For her part, Anika Birkholz, Vice President of Revenue Management and Capacity at AIDA Cruises, emphasized that “our collaboration with Central Romana has been fundamental in developing La Romana as a major homeport in the Caribbean. This agreement provides the stability and mutual guarantees necessary to support the continued growth of AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises, while ensuring reliable operations and an excellent passenger experience.”.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, who welcomed this alliance.
"This agreement reflects the confidence of the leading international cruise lines in the Dominican Republic. It strengthens international connectivity, promotes the development of sustainable tourism, and generates new economic opportunities for La Romana and the country as a whole," the minister stated.
