Disney Cruise Line is accelerating its ambitious fleet expansion plan and expects to add three new ships in 2029, a year earlier than initially announced. With this change, the company will reach a fleet of 13 ships by the end of 2030.
The new schedule was presented by The Walt Disney Company during the communication of its results for the third fiscal quarter of 2026 and represents an acceleration of Disney Cruise Line's growth plans.
The company had previously announced its intention to expand the fleet to 13 ships between 2027 and 2031. The new schedule maintains the arrival of the Disney Believe for the end of 2027, but brings forward the following releases.
Three new ships in a single year
One of the main changes affects the three ships that will be part of a new class smaller than the Wish class.
The first of these ships, provisionally identified as Ship 11, is still scheduled to enter service in 2029. However, Ship 12, initially planned for 2030, will also join the fleet at the end of 2029.
Ship 13, whose debut was planned for 2031, is also being brought forward and will begin operating at the end of 2030.
In addition to these ships, another important launch is planned for 2029: a cruise ship that will be operated in Japan by Oriental Land Company, a Disney partner and operator of Tokyo Disney Resort. This ship will be independent of the three vessels in Disney Cruise Line's new class, although it is also part of the expansion process announced by the group.
Consequently, 2029 will be a particularly busy year for Disney Cruise Line, with three new ships entering service, according to the new schedule released by the company.
A new generation of Disney ships
The three ships in the new class will be smaller than the current Dream and Wish class ships. Initial reports indicate vessels of approximately 100,000 gross tons and a capacity for around 3,000 passengers, placing them between the Magic class ships and the largest in the fleet.
Disney announced this new class as a way to expand its international presence and have ships with dimensions more suitable for certain destinations and markets.
The company has not yet revealed all the details of these three future ships, including their names, itineraries, and home ports.
Disney accelerates its growth in the cruise market
The accelerated timeline reflects the importance Disney is placing on its cruise business. In recent years, the company has undertaken the largest fleet expansion in its history, adding new ships and broadening its geographic reach.
The Disney Adventure, which began operations in Singapore in 2016, also marked Disney Cruise Line's permanent entry into the Asian market. The ship offers three- and four-night cruises from Singapore and represents a key element in the company's international growth strategy.
The Disney Believe , the fourth ship in the Wish class, is scheduled to premiere in late 2027 , before the company accelerates its additions again starting in 2029.
With the revised schedule, Disney Cruise Line will have 13 ships in operation by the end of 2030, a year ahead of schedule. This expansion will allow the company to significantly increase its capacity and explore new markets and destinations while maintaining its position as one of the leading family-oriented cruise brands.
