Swiss company Scylla has added the Lumière to its fleet, a new river cruise ship built by Vahali Shipyards and designed in collaboration with luxury travel firm Tauck.
Measuring 135 meters in length, the Lumière was designed to operate on the Rhône and accommodates 130 passengers in suites and upscale cabins, all featuring large windows and French balconies. The design reflects the comfort and elegance characteristic of the Scylla fleet, with amenities including restaurants, a solarium with a swimming pool, a gym, a yoga studio, and a wellness area.
The vessel also stands out for its advanced technology and sustainability, thanks to a hybrid propulsion system that combines diesel engines with batteries, allowing it to operate in electric mode for limited periods. It also incorporates state-of-the-art electronic equipment and energy-efficient solutions such as LED lighting throughout.
Beyond its role as a cruise ship, the Lumière has been developed as a testbed for autonomous navigation technologies. In a recent demonstration in the Netherlands, the ship completed undocking, navigation, and docking maneuvers autonomously, using systems developed by Shipping Technology in combination with advanced maneuvering control technology.
With this addition, Scylla strengthens its position in the high-end river cruise segment, while also driving technological innovation in the maritime sector.
