Viking has announced new dates for its river cruises in India in 2027, 2028, and 2029, including voyages aboard the Viking Ganges, a new vessel designed specifically for the Brahmaputra. Currently under construction and scheduled to debut in 2028, the Viking Ganges will join its sister ship, the Viking Brahmaputra, which will begin operations in late 2027.
Both ships will sail between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat, in the northeastern state of Assam, as part of Viking's new 15-day Wonders of India. In addition to an eight-day river cruise, the itinerary includes a fully guided land program.
“Since announcing our new river cruises in India, we have seen tremendous interest from travelers eager to explore this extraordinary region,” said Torstein Hagen, Viking’s president and CEO. “With the addition of a second ship on the Brahmaputra River in 2028 and sailings beginning in 2029, we look forward to inviting even more curious travelers to discover India in Viking comfort in the coming years.”
The Viking Ganges and Viking Brahmaputra are sister ships that will accommodate 80 passengers in 40 cabins. Featuring Viking's signature elegant Scandinavian design, all cabins and suites will have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and a private balcony.
Wonders of India
The 15-day Wonders of India operates round-trip from Delhi, with hotel stays in Delhi, Agra , and Jaipur, framing an eight-day cruise on the Brahmaputra River, sailing either east or west. With 13 excursions included, travelers will immerse themselves in India's cultural treasures and have the opportunity to visit up to 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Travelers will explore the rich history of India's Golden Triangle, visiting the legendary Taj Mahal, strolling through the winding streets of Old Delhi, and admiring the ornate Palace of the Winds in Jaipur. While cruising the Brahmaputra River, they can visit temples in Guwahati, explore riverside villages, search for one-horned rhinos and buffalo in Kaziranga National Park , and discover the cultures of Majuli, one of the world's largest river islands.
