On January 2nd, Costa Cruises officially began its collaboration with the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Food Bank Foundation, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the most needy local communities in Gran Canaria.
The initiative has the very important support of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, as well as the various tax and customs authorities of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Regional External Health Authority and the Port Agent.
Food prepared in the kitchens of the Costa Fortuna that is not served because it wasn't ordered in the restaurants is not considered surplus, but rather a resource. Therefore, this food is made available to the Las Palmas Food Bank Foundation for subsequent distribution among local organizations that assist people at risk of social exclusion in the islands.
This effort adds to the Costa Cruises Food Assistance Program, active in 16 destinations where its ships operate, with a presence in ports such as Savona, Genoa, Civitavecchia, Bari, Palermo, Naples, Cagliari, Marseille, Tallinn, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia and now also Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

For her part, the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, highlighted “the importance of initiatives that connect port activity with the well-being of citizens. That a cruise ship stop can become an opportunity to support vulnerable families and groups is a clear example of how ports can generate social value beyond their logistical and economic function.”.
Furthermore, he emphasized that “these types of collaborations reflect a port management model committed to sustainability and institutional cooperation. We appreciate the efforts of Costa Cruises, the Food Bank, and all the administrations involved in making possible a project with such a positive and tangible impact on food aid. The Port Authority will continue to promote initiatives that strengthen our ties with the community and contribute to the well-being of those most in need.”.
