Disney Destiny, Heroes and Villains on the High Seas

The Destiny stands out clearly from the rest of the fleet due to its central theme: Heroes and Villains, a concept that extends beyond decoration to gastronomy, entertainment and even the design of the cabins.

Article from CruisesNews magazine no. 75 – December 2025

Disney DestinyThe Disney Destiny is Disney Cruise Line's third Wish-class ship, and the company's seventh, thus placing a second ship in Fort Lauderdale, next to the Disney Dream, to offer short cruises of 3, 4 or 5 nights through the Caribbean and the Bahamas, always with a stop at its private island Castaway Cay.

These cruises are ideal for both families new to cruising and repeat travelers, and can easily be combined with a pre- or post-cruise stay in South Florida for those crossing the Atlantic who do not want to exceed one week of travel.

It is a 144,000 gross tonnage ship, powered by LNG and with a capacity for 2,476 passengers in double occupancy or 3,466 at maximum, a twin of the Wish and the Treasure, and will be followed by two more units in 2027 and 2028.

With its Heroes and Villains theme, the first impression comes upon entering the Grand Hall, the ship's central atrium, which is inspired by the architecture and visual motifs of Wakanda, an advanced fictional African nation and home to Black Panther, breaking with the more traditional Disney Cruise Line style. Naturally, a Black Panther figure presides over the hall, which also features a stage where small events take place throughout the day.

There are several key elements that define the Disney Cruise Line product, and the Destiny is no exception: fabulous children's facilities, a varied dining experience that includes a change of restaurant every night, and also areas designed exclusively for the relaxation and enjoyment of adults.

Gastronomy:
The rotating restaurant system allows each night to unfold in a different setting, with its own unique identity. The Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King restaurant is the latest addition. Here, a group of singers, dancers, and percussionists entertains diners with the award-winning soundtrack from The Lion King, where classics like "The Circle of Life," "Hakuna Matata," and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" are performed with a vibrant energy.

For its part, Worlds of Marvel continues the technological approach already seen on other ships, combining screens, animation and diner participation in a proposal that is especially attractive to families and fans of the Marvel universe.

1923, on the other hand, provides a more sober and elegant counterpoint, with an atmosphere that pays homage to the origins of the Disney studio and a Californian-inspired cuisine.

In addition to these options, there are multiple informal spaces spread across outdoor and indoor decks, designed to adapt to different travel styles. These include the Marceline Market buffet, located by the pool, and a handful of food counters with a variety of offerings: Donald's Cantina for tacos and burritos, Daisy's Pizza Pies for pizza, Goofy's Grill for hamburgers and hot dogs, Mickey's Smokestack Barbecue for pulled pork and barbecue chicken, and Sweet Minnie's Ice Cream for ice cream.

Disney Destiny

Like its predecessors, Disney Destiny has two themed restaurants for adults only. One is Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, an elegant, sophisticated, and romantic restaurant with a menu designed by three-Michelin-starred chef Arnaud Lallement. It's an experience where you choose from three set tasting menus, and the meal can last between two and three hours depending on the menu selected. The other adults-only restaurant is Palo Steakhouse, a Disney fleet classic serving Italian cuisine and steaks

Children and Teens:
The epicenter of the children's experience is the Disney Oceaneer Club, a large space that functions as a series of interconnected areas, each inspired by different narrative universes. Here, children not only play but also participate in activities led by specialized instructors that combine creativity, learning, and entertainment. Within the Oceaneer Club, the Marvel Super Hero Academy allows younger children to train like real superheroes, interacting with technology, physical challenges, and stories linked to the Marvel Universe. Nearby, Star Wars: Cargo Bay recreates the interior of a galactic spaceship, with interactive missions and visual effects that place children at the heart of the saga.

The creative element plays a key role in the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, where participants can experiment with design, engineering, and problem-solving, playfully understanding how Disney attractions and stories are built. In addition, there's the Fairytale Hall, a space more focused on classic characters and storytelling, designed for younger children and those experiencing the Disney universe for the first time.

As age increases, the ship offers spaces specifically designed for pre-teens and teenagers, with distinct aesthetics and programming. For the 11-14 age group, Edge serves as a social hub rather than a traditional activity room. Equipped with consoles, screens, interactive tables, and relaxation areas, this space encourages interaction among young people of different nationalities in a supervised environment, yet with a high degree of freedom.

For teenagers aged 14 to 17, Vibe represents a further step towards independence. With a contemporary design, music, lounge areas, and access to a private outdoor terrace, this space is conceived as a youth club for socializing. The program includes nightly events, group games, and exclusive activities that allow teenagers to enjoy the ship with their own identity, separate from both the children's and adults' worlds.

It is the third ship in the Wish class and cruises the Caribbean and Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale

Outside, the Hero Zone combines sports areas, obstacle courses, and flexible play zones, adaptable to both organized competitions and free play. Its design, aligned with the Heroes and Villains theme, makes physical exercise a natural extension of the ship's story.

The star attraction on the Disney Destiny is undoubtedly the AquaMouse water coaster, a signature feature of the Wish class. It's a ride on a double float, starting on a conveyor belt in a tunnel where various Disney sequences are shown, and then transitioning into a gentle water slide with some thrills, such as sliding off the ship's side in a transparent slide, and even some uphill sections.

Entertainment and Other Public Areas
In terms of entertainment, the Disney Destiny upholds the standard of original productions that characterizes the company. The main theater hosts large-scale shows developed specifically for the ship, with top-level duration and technical quality. These shows are complemented by movie screenings, interactive events, and a continuous program that adapts to the passengers' interests on each voyage.

For passengers seeking tranquility, the Disney Destiny offers ample adults-only areas. The aft Quiet Cove Pool and its peaceful café are among them, as is the Senses Spa.

Although not marked as "adults only," the three bars surrounding the central atrium are primarily frequented by adults, thanks to the Oceaneer Club's extended hours. De Vil's is themed around the 101 Dalmatians universe, complete with a white piano speckled with black, and is a very elegant bar, while Haunted Mansion Parlor is much more themed. The Sanctum is a much larger lounge, themed around Doctor Strange, somewhere between full-on theming and classic Disney romantic style.

staterooms
, all of which can accommodate at least three people, though they can easily expand to five with rollaway beds or a combination of bunk beds and sofa beds. As is standard on Disney Cruise Line, the bathroom is divided into two compartments: one with a toilet and sink, and the other with a sink and shower.

Following the theme of Heroes vs. Villains, the cabins on board the Disney Destiny feature decorations and details that pay homage to certain characters and movies, such as Merida from “Brave”, Mulan, Hercules, The Incredibles, the sorcerer Mickey from “Fantasia” and the superhero team from “Big Hero Six”.

Disney Destiny

In addition to standard staterooms, the Disney Destiny offers a range of suites and concierge-level staterooms, including the luxurious Iron Man Tower Suite located in the ship's faux bow funnel. This suite boasts two floors and an elegant style with plenty of marble, but of course, numerous nods to Iron Man's lair.
