A hero's welcome awaited Disney Cruise Line 's newest ship , the Disney Destiny, on Monday afternoon during a sensational christening ceremony held at its home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The christening of the Disney Destiny combined the energy of a concert with Disney's signature theatrical spectacle, including a multi-level stage, drone special effects, and scenic projections on the ship itself, along with a live band and a dozen vocal performers. The show, performed on the waterfront, featured a pop-rock musical arrangement of iconic songs from Hercules, The Lion King, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Panther , and more—a tribute to the legendary stories of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel that passengers can enjoy aboard the new ship.
“For more than 100 years, we’ve entertained our fans in new and innovative ways, connecting them with the Disney stories they love,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, during the celebration. “Disney Cruise Line is an integral part of that legacy, as our ships become brand ambassadors that travel the world and bring joy to our guests in a way only Disney can. Now, Disney Destiny makes its extraordinary entrance into our growing fleet.”
The evening culminated with the traditional champagne shower and the ceremonial christening blessing, delivered by Susan Egan, godmother of the Disney Destiny. The renowned Broadway artist, who embodies the spirit of the ship thanks to her close association with beloved Disney stories—from lending her unmistakable voice to Megara in Hercules to bringing Belle to life in Beauty and the Beast —recited the blessing to kick off a grand finale filled with sparkle and excitement, preparing the ship to set sail.
“The Disney Cruise Line team, along with our Imagineers, has invested years of experience, creativity, and dedication into this beautiful ship,” said Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences. “They’ve created something truly spectacular.”
