Cunard introduces shore power supply across its entire fleet

The entire Cunard will be able to connect to the land-based electrical grid, whenever available, after being equipped with the necessary technology.

The introduction of shore power on the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth comes ahead of the launch of the fourth ship, the Queen Anne, in May 2024. The ship will begin its maiden voyage with the technology already installed. The Queen Anne's home port of Southampton already has the necessary shore power infrastructure.

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, stated: “With the adoption of onshore power technology, we are taking an important step in our ongoing commitment to reducing emissions, minimizing our carbon footprint, and fostering healthier port environments. The introduction of onshore power technology aligns perfectly with Cunard’s corporate vision and values, and we are proud to be able to take such a positive step.

As part of the European Union's Fit for 55 program , all major ports in the European Union must offer ships the possibility of connecting to electricity in port by 2030.
