The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Luis Ibarra, is at Seatrade Cruise Global, which is being held in Miami until Thursday, March 17, with the purpose of strengthening and renewing the agreements reached and carrying out promotional actions that will impact the projection of the Port of Las Palmas as a cruise destination.
Precisely as a result of the first meetings held with the main shipping companies and tour operators, TUI and AIDA CRUISES confirmed that the Port of Las Palmas will remain a home port at least until 2018.
Another objective Ibarra has for Seatrade Cruise Global is to test, through third-party experiences, the possibility of opening a route for "mini-cruises" or smaller cruise ships that could dock in the Canary Islands ports, not just the ports of general interest. This route would complement the existing one and benefit the destination's tourism offerings. This project arose from meetings with the managing director of Canary Islands Ports, Gustavo Santana, and from their shared desire to diversify the existing offerings.
The port of Las Palmas is participating in the fair under the Cruises Atlantic Island brand, which includes Cape Verde, Madeira and the Canary Islands, and which, since its establishment in 1994, has sought to strengthen the promotion of the islands as a cruise stopover destination in the Atlantic.
