The Mein Schiff family has clearly opted for the ports of the APB.
Palma will be the only port where all five TUI Cruises ships will be based in 2016: the Mein Schiff 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The latter is still under construction in a shipyard in Turku (Finland) and is scheduled to begin its maiden voyage this July.
The company's interest in the Balearic ports has grown over the years. In June 2014, it chose the port of Palma to present its newly launched Mein Schiff 3, which arrived directly from Hamburg on its maiden voyage. And in 2016, all five TUI Cruises ships will use the port of Palma as their base of operations. In total, during the upcoming season, the company's five ships will call at Balearic ports up to 53 times. There will be 31 calls in Palma, 20 in Ibiza, and 2 in Mahón.
All five ships will arrive in Palma. The first will be the Mein Schiff 1, which will call on April 30th from Civitavecchia, Italy. The recently launched Mein Schiff 5, measuring 295 meters in length, will make a total of five calls; the first, on September 23rd, arriving from Valencia.
The Mein Schiff 3 will arrive at the port of Ibiza and is scheduled to make about fifteen calls. At 293 meters long, it will be one of the largest ships to call at the island. Its first call will be on May 2nd, arriving from Barcelona and bound for Palma. Meanwhile, the port of Mahón will receive two visits from the Mein Schiff 1, which is 264 meters long.
TUI Cruises ships carry between 1,900 and 2,600 passengers (depending on the capacity of each ship), the vast majority of whom are German citizens.
