The APB highlights it in the Seatrade Cruise Global as an exclusive destination.
The special natural, geographical and historical characteristics of the port of Maó are a great tourist attraction that the Balearic Port Authority (APB) is promoting internationally in forums such as Seatrade Cruise Global, the world's leading cruise fair, which this year is being held in the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from March 14 to 17.
Maó will be the new 'boutique port' of the Mediterranean, ideal for medium or small cruise ships that adapt to the characteristics of the harbor and whose passengers - tourists with high purchasing power - seek small cities known for their culture, their history and their natural values.
In this regard, the APB promotes the tourist attractions of the port of Maó, the city and, therefore, of Menorca, with publications in specialized magazines such as the International Cruise and Ferry Review, whose spring/summer edition includes an article entitled “A boutique port” which highlights that “Maó, one of the longest ports in the Mediterranean, is a great starting point for visitors to discover the treasures of the island of Menorca.”.
The promotion of Mahón will be enhanced thanks to the involvement of other institutions with which the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) is working to create a boutique port route in the Western Mediterranean. These include the French Riviera Chamber of Commerce, the Port Authorities of Piombino and Elba, the Port Authority of Northern Sardinia, the Port of Sète, and Ports de la Generalitat (the Catalan government's port authority).
Thus, Maó forms an attractive tourist route together with Porto Torres (Sardinia), Nice (French Riviera), Porto Ferraio (on the island of Elba), Palamós (on the Costa Brava) and Sète (in the south of France) whose joint promotion allows for greater dissemination.
In 2016, nearly one hundred cruise ship calls are planned, bringing more than 79,000 passengers to the island, 34% more than in 2015. Just a few days ago, the luxury ship Tere Moana, 100 meters long and with a capacity for 90 passengers, requested six new calls in Maó,
scheduled for the months of October, November, and December.
