Cruise lines continue to favor Spanish ports: a record 8.4 million cruise passengers in 2015

The "Ports of Spain" stand, promoted by Puertos del Estado, will host 21 Spanish Port Authorities who will present their offerings at the world's largest cruise fair.

"Blue Carpet", the Spain brand as a cruise destination, which allows access to a differentiated cultural, gastronomic, scenic and leisure offer.

Cruise passenger traffic reached 8,435,966 in 2015, representing a 9.4% increase over the previous year. Barcelona, ​​the Balearic Islands, Málaga, and Valencia in the Mediterranean; the Bay of Cádiz, Vigo, and A Coruña on the Atlantic coast; and the Canary Islands are the main destinations for this type of tourism, accounting for 96% of national cruise traffic. With these figures, Puertos del Estado (the Spanish Port Authority) will participate in the world's largest cruise trade show, Seatrade 2016, held from March 14 to 17 in Fort Lauderdale, USA.

The PORTS OF SPAIN institutional stand, under the slogan "Blue Carpet: Enter Spain on a blue carpet," will present a comprehensive image of Spain and promote the cruise sector in our country by highlighting improvements to port facilities and the cultural and tourist offerings. Puertos del Estado (State Ports Authority) launched the campaign in 2013, based on the concept that ports are the gateway to our country, to present the Spain brand as a destination that allows tourists access to a complete and distinctive range of cultural, gastronomic, scenic, and leisure activities.

Twenty-one Spanish Port Authorities ( A Coruña, Alicante, Almería, Bay of Algeciras, Bay of Cádiz, Balearic Islands, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Cartagena, Ceuta, Ferrol, Huelva, Las Palmas, Málaga, Motril, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santander, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia, and Vigo ) will be present at the fair with the aim of consolidating Spain's position in the cruise market. Likewise, the Ports of Spain stand will feature major companies related to the cruise industry, such as Bergé, BC Agency, Eulen, Pérez y Cía, and Tubbo, as well as companies from the food sector, such as Mahou San Miguel, Enate, and Freixenet.

Seatrade 2016, held this year in Fort Lauderdale, USA, is the most important trade fair in the cruise industry, bringing together exhibitors (shipping lines, shipping agents, provisioners, etc.) from around the world. This year, 11,000 professionals and 825 exhibitors are accredited. In addition, a conference program takes place during the fair, featuring nearly one hundred speakers from the cruise industry who will present the strategic directions for the cruise market's development in the coming years.
