New Zealand-based expedition cruise company Heritage Expeditions has unveiled a new adventure through the South Pacific islands, with a tour of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, as well as the remote islands of Wallis and Futuna, considered true "treasure islands".
The company's commercial director and expedition leader, Aaron Russ, explained that the new 11-day trip, Tropical Islands of Fiji, Samoa & Tonga Cruise, combines some of the best-known destinations in the South Pacific with less frequented islands and atolls that are often left out of the traditional tourist circuits.
"This trip is designed for adventurers of all levels who want to explore places far from the usual routes, enjoy encounters with native wildlife and discover cultures that have remained virtually untouched over time, and then relax on white sand beaches and snorkel in warm waters full of colorful corals and marine life," Russ said.
Nature, fauna and culture of the South Pacific
Among the highlights of the round-trip itinerary from Fiji are the opportunity to discover the limestone islands of Fulaga, the lush rainforests of Bouma Heritage National Park, and the Tafua Forest Reserve. The program also includes snorkeling activities in the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve and the iconic Swallows Cave.
The trip will also allow you to learn about ancient Polynesian traditions, the history of World War II and the reef-bound lagoons of Wallis and Futuna, including Alofi, declared an Important Bird Area.
In addition to snorkeling in virtually untouched reefs and coral gardens, passengers will have the opportunity to venture into little-visited jungles in search of species such as the Samoan flying fox, the Fijian monkey-faced bat, and various endemic and rare birds.
These include the Taveuni silktail, the Mao, the Samoan island thrush, and the elusive jagged-billed pigeon, considered Samoa's national bird and one of the dodo's closest living relatives.

The journey will take you through picture-postcard landscapes, ancient customs, and cultural encounters. The program includes visits to villages and traditional welcomes, with demonstrations of the Taualuga, a Samoan dance of great cultural significance.
