Passengers aboard the Scenic Eclipse experienced one of nature's most extraordinary phenomena yesterday: the total solar eclipse of August 12, which crossed the Arctic and the North Atlantic. Positioned off the coast of East Greenland, the Scenic Eclipse offered its passengers a privileged vantage point as the Moon passed directly between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily transforming the Arctic sky over Greenland's spectacular landscape.
The moment was captured by Tino Raimondi, Scenic's videographer specializing in the Arctic, who documented the eclipse from the ship itself.
The astronomical phenomenon occurred during the current 15-day Wonders of the High Arctic: Greenland & Iceland, which the Scenic Eclipse is undertaking between Oslo and Reykjavik. Passengers were able to witness the eclipse against the backdrop of the extraordinary landscape of East Greenland, accompanied by explanations from the Discovery Team of experts.
The total solar eclipse of August 12 swept across the Arctic and the North Atlantic, with a path of totality that crossed Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain.
The experience also had a special meaning as it was viewed from a yacht that bears the name of this astronomical phenomenon, becoming one of the highlights of a trip designed to bring passengers closer to some of nature's most remote and spectacular destinations.
The Scenic Eclipse will continue its journey through East Greenland before ending its voyage in Reykjavik on August 18.
