To mark World Oceans Day, the MSC Foundation and MSC Cruises today announced the launch of Oceans Day Powered by the MSC Foundation, a new onboard program designed to help children and families better understand, celebrate, and care for the ocean through experiences that combine learning, creativity, and engagement. The program is expected to attract thousands of children from around the world each year, helping to shape the next generation of ocean ambassadors.
Developed by the MSC Foundation in collaboration with the MSC Cruises entertainment team, Oceans Day powered by the MSC Foundation is being rolled out across the entire MSC Cruises fleet, making every cruise an opportunity to introduce younger generations to marine conservation. The program builds on the MSC Foundation’s years of collaboration with conservation and education partners, combining lessons learned from its restoration work at Ocean Cay in the Bahamas with the expertise of organizations like Mission Blue and Marevivo to create immersive, age-appropriate experiences. It also reflects the increasingly important role of MSC Cruises’ global entertainment team as a hub for creating and producing original family experiences at sea.
“Oceans Days, powered by the MSC Foundation, reflects our conviction that education is fundamental to the long-term conservation of the oceans,” said Daniela Picco, Executive Director of the MSC Foundation. “We believe that if you know the sea, you protect it; it all starts there. By helping children and families forge a deeper connection with the ocean, we hope to foster curiosity, responsibility, and a lifelong commitment to caring for the marine world.”.
Designed around three pillars: celebrating the ocean on every cruise, placing children and families at the heart of the experience, and fostering ocean awareness. Children aged 3 to 17 will be invited to participate in a series of interactive experiences, including “Everybody Loves the Sea,” an original song created with a children’s choir, as well as games and quizzes, creative workshops, drawing activities, and conservation challenges. Passengers will also be encouraged to make personal pledges to protect the ocean through the “My Wish for the Ocean” initiative and receive an Ocean Ambassador Passport filled with practical actions they can continue at home. The experience culminates in a children’s parade set to music designed to reinforce positive environmental messages in a fun and memorable way.
“Through Oceans Day, MSC Cruises is proud to contribute to making the MSC Foundation’s ocean education mission a reality on board, creating meaningful shared experiences that encourage children to better understand and care for the ocean,” said Matteo Mancini, Director of Family Entertainment Development at MSC Cruises.
Oceans Day, an initiative of the MSC Foundation, will be progressively implemented across the entire MSC Cruises fleet, helping to raise awareness among children and families about ocean conservation. On ships with an MSC Foundation Centre, Foundation representatives will also participate in the activities, helping to deepen children's connection with the ocean. The program will continue to evolve over time, introducing new experiences to ensure it remains engaging, relevant, and impactful for future generations.
