The ceremony was attended by Jeff Dash, Viking; Giorgio Gomiero, Fincantieri's senior vice president of Operations; and Gilberto Tobaldi, director of the Ancona shipyard.
With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, the “Viking Mira” has 499 cabins and can accommodate up to 998 passengers. The ship, which will operate itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, belongs to the small cruise ship segment and joins Viking's ocean fleet, built entirely by Fincantieri.
All Viking vessels are designed and built in accordance with the latest international safety and navigation regulations, and feature advanced technological solutions and high-efficiency propulsion systems designed to reduce emissions and minimize environmental impact, in line with the most demanding industry standards.
The collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, which began in 2012, continues to solidify into a strong alliance in the cruise sector. Considering the ships already ordered, the contracts signed, and the options agreed upon in recent months—the effectiveness of which remains subject to the usual financing conditions required by the market—the combined order book between the two groups currently comprises 26 vessels.
The Ancona shipyard is one of the Group's main production centers. In recent years, the facilities have undergone a comprehensive development program aimed at strengthening their competitiveness through infrastructure, technology, and logistics improvements, driven jointly by the company and the public port authority. With an area of 360,000 m², the shipyard has a production capacity of 60,000 gross tons, lifting systems capable of handling up to 500 tons, and a hull construction capacity of 1,200 tons per month.
Since 2009, more than 20 vessels have been delivered thanks to the daily work of approximately 3,700 employees of diverse nationalities, backgrounds, and generations. The shipyard also actively participates in the Operations Excellence program, which incorporates advanced technologies, robotics, and artificial intelligence to increase efficiency and improve the quality of work.
