Oceania Cruises is preparing to open a new chapter in its history with the arrival of the Oceania Sonata, a ship that marks the beginning of the Sonata Class, a completely new generation within the fleet. Its debut, scheduled for August 2027, represents more than just the addition of a new vessel; it embodies the company's vision of elevating contemporary luxury to a higher level, reinforcing its already legendary culinary identity and solidifying its position in the premium and luxury segment at sea.

The ship will accommodate 1,390 passengers, served by 855 crew members, guaranteeing one of the highest service ratios in the industry. This balance between comfort, open spaces, and exquisite service has been a cornerstone of the Oceania experience since its inception, and the Sonata promises to elevate it to new heights.
Sonata Class
The Oceania Sonata inaugurates the Sonata Class, which will be completed with four other ships designed to express the natural evolution of the travel concept that has defined the company for more than two decades: refined elegance, high-level gastronomy and cultural experiences deeply linked to the destinations.
Fincantieri, the Italian shipyard chosen to design and build the new Sonata Class, is part of a long-term collaboration, having already built other prominent ships for Oceania Cruises. This new class marks a new era for the Oceania Cruises fleet, featuring larger ships that maintain the intimate ship concept thanks to a design that combines spacious areas with private lounges.
The design of the onboard spaces reflects the philosophy of offering large social areas flooded with natural light, combined with tranquil retreats designed for relaxation. This duality reflects the relaxed luxury style that has characterized the brand for decades.

The launch of the Oceania Sonata also coincides with a significant strategic shift for Oceania Cruises, which is evolving towards an experience primarily designed for adults. From January 7, 2026, all new bookings with the company will be exclusively for guests 18 years of age and older, a decision that reinforces the tranquil and sophisticated atmosphere that characterizes the brand. Bookings made before that date that include minors will be fully honored, ensuring a gradual transition for travelers. As Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of the cruise line, explained, many guests choose Oceania precisely for the serenity and relaxed pace on board, elements that are now consolidated with this policy. The decision also responds to studies conducted among loyal customers and industry partners, which highlight a preference for an experience focused on gastronomy, culture, and discovery, rather than family entertainment. With this step, the company reaffirms its philosophy “Your World. Your Way.”, focusing on inspiring and leisurely journeys, with extended stays, less crowded ports and carefully selected cultural excursions, shared among like-minded travelers.

Construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard:
The ship is currently under construction at the Marghera shipyard in Venice, belonging to the prestigious Fincantieri firm, with which Oceania has maintained a relationship for over two decades. The steel-cutting ceremony marked the formal start of assembly, a milestone laden with symbolism for the company and its future passengers.
This collaboration has resulted in some of Oceania's most iconic ships, including Oceania Marina, Oceania Riviera, Oceania Vista, and Oceania Allura. The combination of Italian naval engineering, contemporary design, and exceptional craftsmanship is the foundation that ensures each new ship maintains the standard of luxury that guests expect.
Suites designed as private residences:
The Oceania Sonata redefines the onboard accommodation experience. Approximately one-third of the cabins will be suites, all with private balconies to enjoy constant contact with the sea.
The four Owner's Suites will be the jewels of the ship, each over 230 square meters, located in the aft corners of the upper decks. These floating residences will feature a main living area, 180° wraparound terraces—ideal for enjoying sunsets, nighttime cruises, or the coastal scenery at any time of day—and two separate bedrooms. The master suite will boast a king-size bed and a spa-like marble bathroom, while the guest bedroom will have a queen-size bed. Luxury designed for those seeking privacy and comfort in every detail.

The eight Vista Suites, ranging from 140 to 175 m², also located at the stern, will offer spacious panoramic terraces, generous living and dining areas, and bathrooms with rain shower, double sink and deep bathtub, recreating the feeling of being in a luxury residence at sea.
The completely redesigned Oceania Suites integrate living room, dining room and bedroom into fluid spaces of between 92 and 130 m², with private teak terraces, guaranteeing privacy and connection with the ocean.
The new Horizon Suites category exceeds 55 square meters, offering a separate living room, a walk-in closet, and a private terrace. Positioned between the Penthouse Suites and the Oceania Suites, they expand the range of luxury accommodation options.
The Penthouse and Penthouse Deluxe Suites, ranging from 40 to 45 m², combine elegance and functionality, with panoramic windows and private terraces, ideal for those seeking an intimate space without sacrificing comfort and style.
All suites will feature butler service, Tranquility Beds, Aquamar bath products, and in the higher categories, illy coffee machines, guaranteeing an exceptional level of detail in every experience.
Gastronomy as the Heart of the Journey
If there is one element that defines Oceania Cruises, it is its gastronomy. The motto “The Finest Cuisine at Sea” has always been one of the pillars of its identity, and the Oceania Sonata will continue this tradition with ten different culinary experiences, combining fleet classics with exclusive innovations.
Among the culinary offerings that define the Oceania Sonata experience aboard are its signature restaurants, each offering a unique culinary journey. In the Grand Dining Room, guests enjoy international cuisine in a classic and elegant setting, ideal for starting the evening with sophistication. For lovers of French gastronomy, Jacques offers signature dishes prepared with precision and creativity, while Red Ginger seduces with the freshness and modernity of contemporary Pan-Asian cuisine. Meat lovers will find a refined steakhouse at Polo Grill, where the quality of each cut takes center stage, and those who appreciate Italian tradition will delight in Toscana, a space dedicated to regional specialties that transport you to Italy with every bite. Each restaurant not only satisfies the appetite but transforms every meal into an unforgettable experience that reflects the culinary identity of Oceania Cruises.

In addition, Sonata will introduce two new concepts. La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France: a fine dining restaurant with only 18 seats, backed by the prestigious French association, will offer tasting menus created by executive chefs Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale, with guest chefs, and will host the Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course tasting menu paired with vintage champagnes. Secondly, the Nikkei Kitchen, dedicated to Nikkei cuisine, which fuses Japanese and Peruvian flavors with fresh seafood, citrus fruits, and chili peppers, will feature an open kitchen and contemporary design that reflects the creativity of this unique gastronomy.
Beyond its culinary excellence, the Oceania Sonata will also offer guests wellness and culture, with diverse spaces that invite them to discover new experiences. The Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers a haven of relaxation with luxurious spa treatments, fitness programs, and hydrotherapy circuits that revitalize body and mind. For food enthusiasts, the Culinary Center opens its doors to hands-on classes that allow guests to immerse themselves in the culinary arts, while the Chef's Studio provides private and exclusive experiences where every detail is transformed into gourmet learning. Creativity and the mind find their home in the Artists' Loft and the LYNC Digital Center, where art workshops, lectures, and technological and cultural courses offer unique opportunities for exploration and personal enrichment. Each area reflects Oceania Cruises' philosophy, transforming the onboard experience into an adventure of wellness, learning, and discovery. Every space reflects the company's philosophy with enriching experiences that go beyond traditional entertainment, connecting passengers with their destinations in a profound and meaningful way.
Itineraries and Reservations
The Oceania Sonata will begin operations in August 2027 and reservations for the inaugural season officially opened on January 28, 2026, allowing travelers to secure a place more than a year in advance.
The inaugural cruise will begin on August 7, 2027, departing from Civitavecchia, the port of Rome, for a 14-day Mediterranean itinerary concluding in Trieste. This debut voyage will explore some of Southern Europe’s most evocative destinations, with stops in Italian gems such as Salerno and Catania, the elegant Valletta in Malta, and several iconic Greek destinations, including Katakolon, Heraklion, Paros, Athens, and Mykonos. The journey will also include stops in Montenegro and Croatia, creating an itinerary that blends history, culture, and Mediterranean landscapes with the cruise line’s signature refinement.
Following its debut, the Oceania Sonata will embark on an inaugural season running from summer 2027 to spring 2028, with carefully curated itineraries in Europe and the Americas. During its first few weeks, the ship will remain in the Mediterranean, sailing between iconic ports such as Barcelona, Rome, Athens, and Venice, combining historic cities with stops at less-traveled islands and coastal enclaves. These itineraries, ranging from 7 to 12 nights, will allow guests to discover everything from the rich culture of Italy and Greece to the landscapes of the Adriatic and the charm of the Western Mediterranean.

With the arrival of autumn, the ship will expand its reach to the Atlantic and Northern Europe. Some routes will connect the Mediterranean with Atlantic cities such as Lisbon and London, offering longer voyages that combine culture, gastronomy, and coastal scenery. Later, the Oceania Sonata will embark on a transatlantic crossing to Miami, thus inaugurating its season in the Americas.
During the winter and through spring 2028, the ship will primarily sail the Caribbean and Central America, with itineraries that include tropical islands and colonial ports, as well as a highlight 16-day voyage through the Panama Canal to Los Angeles. In total, this inaugural season will feature more than ninety destinations in different regions of the world.
Under the concept “Your World. Your Way.”, the ship will offer extended stops, less crowded ports and carefully selected cultural excursions, combining exploration, comfort and relaxed luxury.
