Cruise Saudi, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has announced the appointment of Taha Omar Nazar as interim CEO, replacing Lars Clasen, who is leaving the company after leading its founding phase.
The board of directors expressed their gratitude for Clasen's contribution, highlighting his key role in the creation of Aroya Cruises and in expanding the cruise tourism offering in the Kingdom, in line with Saudi Arabia's economic diversification goals.
Nazar's appointment is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its executive leadership and ensure operational continuity in a new phase focused on sustainable growth and business consolidation.
Nazar, who has served as chief financial officer since 2023, has nearly two decades of experience in sectors such as oil and gas, aviation, and maritime tourism. His profile combines expertise in finance, governance, and organizational transformation, with a focus on operational efficiency and institutional growth.
“It is an honor to have the board’s confidence at this key stage,” Nazar said. “Our goal is to strengthen performance, accelerate the execution of our strategic priorities, and generate sustainable long-term value.”.
During this new phase, the company will focus on operational excellence, profitability and improving the customer experience, while advancing strategic projects such as the international expansion of Aroya and the development of Aman at Sea, its commitment to the ultra-luxury segment in collaboration with the Aman group.
The shipping company also plans to resume Aroya's operations in the Red Sea from May, with itineraries connecting Saudi Arabia with destinations in Egypt and Jordan, before starting its second season in the Mediterranean in June.
Clasen's departure also coincides with changes in the management team, as reported by Seatrade Cruise News, in a context of transition towards a stage focused on consolidation and profitability of the business.
