AmaWaterways is launching a new culinary experience, Cooking with Mamie, which offers travelers a deeper, more personal connection to French culture through hands-on traditions both onboard and ashore. Available exclusively on the AmaDante and AmaLyra as part of the Paris and Normandy itinerary, the program reflects the company’s ongoing focus on immersive and authentically local experiences.
Developed in exclusive collaboration with Atelier des Mamies, this unique proposal brings authentic French grandmothers to the heart of the traveler's experience, both on board and in Paris.
“Our goal has always been to create meaningful connections between our guests and the destinations they visit,” said Catherine Powell. “With Cooking with Mamie, we bring local traditions to life in a very personal way, offering authentic, intimate, and memorable experiences both onboard and ashore.”
The experience unfolds in two settings: the ship and the city of Paris.
Onboard, a French grandmother joins the cruise in Paris to lead cooking sessions in small groups of up to 10 people. Together, guests prepare classic desserts such as tarte Tatin and madeleines, sharing techniques, stories, and traditions passed down through generations. These sessions are included in the cruise program.
In Paris, travelers participating in land-based programs before or after their cruise can optionally enjoy the "Le Macaron: A Parisian Patisserie Experience," held at the Atelier des Mamies workshop in the Montmartre. There, they will learn to make macarons in a warm and authentic atmosphere alongside a French grandmother.

AmaWaterways' shore excursions extend the experience beyond the river, combining stays in centrally located four- and five-star hotels, daily breakfasts, guided tours and local experiences, along with arranged transfers between the airport, hotel, and ship. Guests are also accompanied by dedicated Cruise Managers throughout their voyage.
With Cooking with Mamie, AmaWaterways continues to expand its offering of enriching experiences, bringing travelers closer to the culture, people and traditions of the destinations they visit, both on board and on land.
