Princess Cruises celebrated a major milestone over the weekend when its newest ship, the Star Princess, completed its first transit of the Panama Canal.
As the Star Princess navigated one of the world's greatest engineering marvels, guests on board enjoyed a front-row seat to the intricate lock system and breathtaking scenery that characterize this legendary crossing. This transit marks a key moment in the ship's inaugural season and reinforces Princess Cruises' historic connection to canal voyages.
“A transit through the Panama Canal is a must-do experience for travelers from around the world, and it is especially meaningful when one of our newest ships makes this iconic passage for the first time,” said Gennaro Arma, captain of the Star Princess. “We are honored to undertake this historic crossing in partnership with the Panama Canal Authority, whose expertise and management have shaped one of the world’s great maritime landmarks.”
Guests traveling aboard the Star Princess enjoyed a special program throughout the day, which included destination expert commentary, presentations on the history and significance of the canal, as well as unique opportunities to admire the scenery from the ship's exterior decks and observation areas.
Princess Cruises pioneered regular cruises through the Panama Canal in 1967, becoming the first cruise line to transit this waterway, and continues to be one of the leading companies in this destination.
The 2026-2027 season will feature six of the company's ships, making 31 sailings on nine itineraries from cities including Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco , and Vancouver. Highlights include 13 transits through the historic locks and 26 through the canal's new locks.
