Norwegian Cruise Line 's " Norwegian Aura" has touched the water for the first time and begun the final phase of its construction at the Monfalcone shipyard. Delivery of the ship is scheduled for spring 2027.
The launching ceremony, which marks the transition to the final phase of outfitting and interior finishing, was attended by Andrea Marongiu, NCL's senior director of new construction projects, and Cristiano Bazzara, director of the Monfalcone shipyard.
With a gross tonnage of approximately 170,000 tons and a length of 344 meters, the “Norwegian Aura” is 10% larger than the previous Prima Plus-class ships, “Norwegian Aqua” and “Norwegian Luna,” and is the first NCL ship built at the Monfalcone shipyard. The vessel has 1,976 cabins and can accommodate approximately 3,880 passengers.
Among its distinctive features are a large water park with the largest number of slides in the entire NCL fleet, a ropes course, a vertical climbing wall and the Ocean Boulevard, a 360-degree outdoor promenade.
The construction of the “Norwegian Aura” is part of the consolidated partnership between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH), recently reinforced with an order for three additional new cruise ships, one for each of the group's brands (NCL, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises), bringing the total to 16 ships with deliveries planned until 2037.
This strategic collaboration has driven the development and evolution of the NCLH fleet, contributing to the introduction of innovative design solutions and ever-higher standards in quality, efficiency and onboard experience.
The Monfalcone shipyard thus confirms its position as a center of excellence in the construction of new generation cruise ships, having delivered more than 40 units and continuing to build increasingly advanced vessels, thanks also to constant improvements in infrastructure, with special attention to the safety and well-being of the staff.
