The First National Congress of the Port Sector has concluded with a roadmap to "continue working with all stakeholders to strengthen the Spanish port system as an economic engine, a strategic logistics hub and a benchmark for innovation and sustainability in the European and international sphere," highlighted the president of State Ports, Gustavo Santana, in the presentation of the conclusions.
“The success of this Congress, both in terms of the number of attendees and the quality of the panels and conferences, confirms the sector's need for a global forum that brings together the entire community and where all the challenges shaping the present and future of a strategic sector for Spain can be discussed,” added Santana. For three days, before more than 650 attendees, over 50 speakers and lecturers addressed the challenges and opportunities for the logistics and port sector at a time of great global uncertainty.
“This Congress has addressed the importance of digitalization as a driver of competitiveness. At Puertos del Estado (State Ports Authority), we are promoting a Digitalization Plan in conjunction with public administrations. And regarding decarbonization, another major theme of the Congress, we are collaborating with various stakeholders (the electricity grid, public administrations, electricity companies, etc.) to ensure that the deployment of OPS (Operations and Services) is technically and economically viable,” explained the president of the public body.
Strengthening public-private partnerships is another key outcome of this meeting. “Strengthening this partnership, the foundation of the state-owned port model, is essential for maintaining competitiveness. Furthermore, the investor interest in our ports has been evident, clearly demonstrating the strength and confidence in the Spanish port system. State Ports will continue to support and facilitate these processes,” added Santana. But also, working towards greater administrative efficiency and a review of the regulatory framework. “The Congress of Deputies is currently reviewing the Consolidated Text of the State Ports and Merchant Marine Law, in accordance with European guidelines on the matter and the implementation of the Sustainable Mobility Law approved last year. In addition, the drafting of the Operating Regulations is underway,” he emphasized.
The First National Congress of the Port Sector was created with the intention of continuing, so the president of State Ports invited those present to the second edition in two years.
