Royal Caribbean celebrated a significant milestone with the first steel cutting for the fifth Icon Class ship, marking the start of construction on a new vessel set to debut in 2028. The milestone was celebrated with the traditional steel-cutting ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, which brought together leaders and partners from both the Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku teams.
The initial steel cutting marks the official start of construction and the multi-year journey ahead, in which thousands of experts in design, naval engineering, architecture and more will come together to make the world's greatest family vacation a reality.
The revolutionary new vacations will continue Icon Class's legacy of delivering the world's best family vacations with a comprehensive combination of experiences: from beach getaways, resort retreats and the adrenaline rush of theme parks.
The fifth Icon Class ship joins the growing lineup that includes Legend of the Seas, due to debut in Europe in July 2026, and a fourth Icon Class ship, soon to be named and due in 2027, as well as options to build a sixth and seventh ship.
