Uniworld Boutique River Cruises celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, marking five decades of transforming the river cruise experience and setting the benchmark for luxury on some of the world's most iconic waterways.
Founded in 1976, Uniworld has spent half a century leading the industry thanks to unique itineraries, guest-centric ship design, and a deep commitment to sustainability and attention to detail. To mark its Golden Anniversary, the company will celebrate throughout 2026 with a series of exclusive experiences and commemorative moments designed to surprise and delight guests, from elegant onboard celebrations to a special 50th Anniversary sale.
“Everything we do begins with our guests,” says Ellen Bettridge, President and CEO of Uniworld. “For 50 years, we have listened carefully, evolved alongside our travelers, and continually raised the bar for what a luxury river cruise can be. This anniversary is both a celebration of our journey and an exciting look toward the future, and we are delighted to celebrate it with our guests throughout the year.”.
Uniworld pioneered many of the features now considered essential in riverside luxury. It was the first to offer personal butler service and to launch the industry's first Super Ships: authentic floating boutique hotels with grand lobbies, multiple dining options, and meticulous design.
The brand also spearheaded the introduction of longer itineraries, all-inclusive fares, onboard wellness coaches, Cruise & Train trips, MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experiences that support local communities, Surprise Cruises, and the industry's most extensive Rivers of the World cruise, cementing its reputation as the most innovative name in luxury river cruising.
During the 2026 season, all European departures will include an onboard “Golden Party”: an elegant evening commemorating 50 years of river cruising, plus other anniversary-inspired moments throughout the year.
To celebrate this milestone, Uniworld has also launched a special 50th anniversary sale, with discounts of up to 30% on selected 2026 departures, inviting both loyal customers and new travelers to be part of this historic year.
Uniworld kicks off this special year with the debut of the SS Emilie, the brand's first newly built ship since 2021, which will sail the Danube on eight European itineraries. This 154-passenger Super Ship is inspired by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and named after his muse, Emilie Flöge. It features Art Nouveau design elements, rich jewel tones, gold accents, a unique restaurant and lounge, and an innovative two-bedroom suite option.
The anniversary year will also bring two new Surprise Cruises, as well as the company's first Grand Surprise Cruise combining both departures, an ambitious 50-night Rivers of the World cruise across three continents and four ships, plus new Generations Collection family departures, among other brand-new itineraries.
Looking ahead to 2027, Uniworld will introduce four new ships and six itineraries, marking its largest expansion ever. The new additions include three newly built Super Ships—SS Audrey, SS Marlene, and SS São Rafael—as well as exclusive sailings aboard the Aqua Blu, which will mark Uniworld's debut in Singapore and Indonesia.
