The Mardi Gras, flagship of Carnival Cruise Line, has returned to service with a wide range of new upgrades after completing an extensive dry dock in Marseille, France.
The ship sets sail from Barcelona on a 15-day transatlantic voyage to its home port in Port Canaveral (Florida), where it will resume its regular year-round cruise schedule to spectacular Caribbean destinations.
Among the main new features is the addition of connecting doors in 100 cabins, offering greater flexibility for multi-generational families and large groups, allowing them to enjoy their holidays together more comfortably.
The Carnival Adventures area has been completely redesigned with a new layout that facilitates a smoother experience when booking excursions. In addition, the ship's casino has been expanded and now features new slot machines, while several retail outlets have been renovated, including brands such as Tag Heuer, Breitling, Pandora, and Swarovski.
The ship has also undergone accessibility improvements, with redesigned corridors and new adaptations in public areas and cabins, reinforcing Carnival's commitment to an inclusive experience for all passengers.
“The Mardi Gras was a game-changer when it debuted as our first Excel-class ship, and now it’s leading the way again by being the first of its class to complete a dry dock,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “These upgrades not only enhance the onboard experience for families and groups, but also reflect the exciting direction we’re taking with future fleet improvements.”
Passengers on the Mardi Gras will enjoy a 15-day transatlantic voyage from Barcelona to Port Canaveral, with stops in Malaga and Cadiz (Seville), Tenerife (Canary Islands) and Celebration Key, Carnival's exclusive private destination.
With a capacity for 6,400 passengers, the Mardi Gras will be based in Port Canaveral year-round, offering seven- to nine-day itineraries to the most popular Caribbean destinations. Beginning in 2027, it will become the first Excel-class ship, and the largest in the fleet, to offer short four- and five-day cruises in the region.
