Scenic Group celebrated a significant milestone in the evolution of its river cruise fleet with the launch of the Emerald Astra, the new Emerald Starship, which took place on September 30, 2025, at the company's shipyard in Turnu Severin, Romania. The moment the ship touched the water for the first time symbolized the beginning of a new era for Emerald Cruises & Tours, renowned worldwide for its innovative design, high-level onboard experiences, and focus on modern luxury for river travel.
With its official debut planned for May 2026 on the Danube River, the Emerald Astra represents the next generation of Emerald Star-Ships, combining sophisticated design with a renewed focus on comfort, sustainability and style for guests.
With luxurious interiors and cutting-edge features already taking shape, the ship presents a refreshed design narrative with art installations in collaboration with leading European galleries and luxury design brands such as Missoni and Freifrau. Suites and staterooms will feature ESPA toiletries, linens, pillows (with an expanded pillow menu), towels, mattresses, and mattress toppers from top European brands, while some suites will incorporate fabrics and decorative details by Missoni.
The Emerald Astra will also introduce complimentary laundry services for guests, a first for the Emerald Cruises Star-Ships. Following its debut, the Emerald Lumi will join the fleet on the Seine River in 2027, adhering to the same design philosophy.
Following maritime tradition, the Emerald Astra will be Toni Day, a renowned lifeguard turned travel agent, whose outstanding work and leadership reflect the values of Scenic Group. Toni will officially christen the ship during its naming ceremony in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in May 2026. Scenic Group expressed its deep honor in welcoming her as godmother of the Emerald Astra and celebrating her joining the Scenic family.

Across the Emerald Cruises, the improvements encompass pool areas and expanded design collaborations, ensuring that the refined style introduced on board the Emerald Astra extends to all Emerald Star-Ships.
