The Dutch shipyard Concordia Damen, based in Werkendam, has begun construction of a new river cruise ship for Century Cruises, one of China's leading river cruise operators. The vessel was developed in collaboration with United Waterways and marks Century Cruises' official entry into the European river cruise market.
The hull of the ship, which will be named Century Star, has recently arrived at the Concordia Damen shipyard in Werkendam for outfitting. Delivery is scheduled for June 2026.
Century Cruises is a Chinese luxury river cruise operator founded in 1992, primarily known for its operations on the Yangtze River and for pioneering the construction of luxury and eco-friendly ships in China. The company is looking to expand its operations through a partnership with United Waterways, a white-label service provider. United Waterways, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, is a river cruise service provider that operates behind its clients' brands, managing infrastructure, ship operations, and hospitality services.
In August, Alex Ye, CEO of Century Cruises, stated that United Waterways' expertise is key to helping Century Cruises introduce its customers to European river cruise culture. He added that "Concordia Damen's reputation for excellence aligns perfectly with our values of quality, innovation, and environmental commitment."
In the coming months, Concordia Damen will adapt the Century Star for luxury on European rivers, offering high standards of comfort, efficiency and design.
