American Cruise Lines is launching the first all-American cruises on the Great Lakes with three new itineraries departing from May through August 2026. These brand-new cruises will be sailed aboard the American Patriot, the newest small cruise ship in the country.
“Guests have long requested our signature style of Great Lakes cruising,” said Charles B. Robertson, president and CEO of American Cruise Lines. “Now we are proud to offer these cruises the way only American can, aboard a new, smaller ship sailing 100% in domestic waters.”.
This announcement marks the first time in decades that a U.S. ship will offer domestic cruises in the growing Great Lakes cruise market. Without the need to cross borders, the new itineraries represent a completely unique experience compared to all other cruise lines currently operating in the region.
While other ships dock at ports designated for foreign vessels and international entrances, American Cruise Lines will be able to dock in the heart of small towns, urban parks, and private marinas, providing an authentic and exclusive experience not available with any other company.
The 2026 itineraries include a 9-day cruise visiting the Thousand Islands and Niagara Falls, another 9-day cruise exploring Lake Michigan, Green Bay and the nature of the Upper Peninsula, and a 14-day cruise, called American Great Lakes, that travels 800 miles through three of the Great Lakes (Erie, Huron and Michigan).
All cruises include one night's hotel stay prior to embarkation and complimentary domestic airfare. Each itinerary offers days filled with excursions to small towns and sailing on majestic lakes. All cruises begin, end, and remain in the USA.
The American Patriot is fully stabilized for smooth sailing and accommodates only 130 guests. The new ship features staterooms with private balconies (including suites and single cabins at no extra charge), as well as numerous amenities: spacious lounges such as a top-deck lounge with a promenade, a main restaurant with views from every table, a casual café, a chart room, a fitness center, laundry facilities, and elevators to all levels.
9-Day Itinerary – Great Lakes and Thousand Islands
Sail between Syracuse, New York, and Cleveland, Ohio, exploring Lakes Ontario and Erie.
Highlights include: a visit to Boldt Castle while cruising the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands; a glass-bottom boat tour to view a shipwreck on the Great Lakes and the Rock Island Lighthouse; a wine tasting at Coyote Moon Winery; a tour of the Susan B. Anthony Home and Museum; an unforgettable excursion to Niagara Falls; an authentic Amish Country experience, including a visit to a cheese cooperative and a special lunch at the Bricker Amish home; and a Cleveland tour with stops at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

9-Day Itinerary – Lake Michigan and Upper Peninsula
Cruise round-trip from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, exploring Lake Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
Highlights include: additional time in Milwaukee for local exploration; a visit to the 19th-century historic townsite of Fayette; discovering the history and flavors of Escanaba, including authentic Swedish pastries; a tour of the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay with over 70 locomotives; a trolley ride through Muskegon, with visits to historic lighthouses, Lake Michigan beaches, and the USS Silverside Submarine Museum; and a guided tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum.

14-Day Itinerary – American Great Lakes
Cruise between Cleveland, Ohio, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, exploring Lakes Erie, Huron, and Michigan.
Highlights include visits in Detroit to the Henry Ford Museum, Art Institute, Greenfield Village, and Motown Museum; exploration of a shipwreck in Alpena; a tour of the St. Mary's River passing through the Soo Locks; a horse-drawn carriage ride on Mackinac Island and a visit to the famous Grand Hotel; an excursion to the Silver Lake sand dunes with a winery visit in Michigan; activities on Lake Michigan beach such as paddleboarding, kayaking, and kitesurfing; a tour of the Meijer Botanical Garden and Sculpture Park; a visit to Holland and the only authentic working Dutch windmill, with lunch at Bowerman's Blueberry Farms; a visit to the Harley-Davidson Museum; a tour of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland; and a day in Amish Country with a special lunch at the Bricker House.
