HX Expeditions (HX – Hurtigruten Expeditions), in collaboration with the University of Tasmania (UTAS), announce the expansion of the program into two distinct levels of online learning, making Antarctic education more accessible and immersive than ever before.
The University of Tasmania (UTAS), through its Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), developed together with HX the world's first educational program about Antarctica.
Part 1: Introductory Course – Available to all passengers, this flexible online overview of Antarctica is designed to spark curiosity and prepare travelers before, during, or after their journey. This course is free for all travelers who book and travel to Antarctica with HX.
Part 2: Comprehensive Course – A deeper exploration of Antarctic science and sustainability, available year-round with UTAS accreditation, which even allows participants to earn credits for future studies.
Both levels have been developed as a core component of the most comprehensive science and education program in the expedition cruise industry. As a global leader in online learning, UTAS ensures these courses are both academically rigorous and accessible, combining cutting-edge research with flexible digital delivery.
The updated introductory course for the 2025/2026 season will be launched at the end of October, followed by the launch of the full comprehensive course (the UTAS enrollment fee will be confirmed closer to the launch date), ensuring that guests can connect with Antarctica on a deeply personal and educational level.
