Moving closer to its debut, Royal Caribbean 's highly anticipated Star of the Seas has sailed on open water for the first time. This week, it embarked on a series of sea trials, marking a key milestone in construction before the newest Icon-Class ship heads to Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, for its debut in August 2025.
For 11 days, more than 2,000 experts in naval architecture, engineering, navigation, and design are putting Star with a wide range of technical tests to ensure it is in perfect condition. From testing how the vessel handles in open water to pushing its engine to its performance limits and more, Star will cover hundreds of miles on its voyage before entering its final construction phase at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.
The Star will offer more of the revolutionary Icon Class combination with new features and exclusive favorites. The eight neighborhoods, each a destination in itself, offer options for families and travelers of all ages to create memories with a range of thrills, including the fastest and tallest waterslides, unparalleled relaxation in seven pools for every mood and atmosphere, and more than 40 ways to dine, drink, and be entertained. In addition, adventurers can island-hop on 7-night vacations visiting destinations in the Eastern or Western Caribbean, including the brand's top-rated vacation destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.
