Ports of Madeira and Marella Cruises organize an educational visit aboard the Marella Explorer for local university students

Ports of Madeira and Marella Cruises organized an educational visit aboard the Marella Explorer for a group of Tourism and Business Management students from the local university, the Instituto Superior de Administração e Línguas (ISAL), with the aim of deepening their knowledge about the cruise tourism sector and the professional opportunities in this industry.

Ports of Madeira and Marella Cruises organize an educational visit aboard the Marella Explorer for local university studentsThe visit began with a speech about opportunities in the tourism sector, delivered by the president of the Madeira Ports Administration (APRAM), Paula Cabaço. Cabaço explained that this community outreach activity aimed to show students the career opportunities available on board a cruise ship and provide them with an overview of how these ships function and operate.

“One of our main missions, as the regional port authority, is to promote and facilitate dialogue between the local community and the cruise industry,” stated Paula Cabaço, who also highlighted the sector’s great potential. “Cruise ships function as floating cities, staffed by a wide variety of skilled professionals, from tourism and engineering to entertainment, technology, maritime operations, and healthcare,” she noted.

Olivia Wells, Sustainability Manager at Marella Cruises, stated: “We are delighted to partner with the Ports of Madeira to bring the Marella Explorer onboard local university students, giving them a firsthand look at cruise operations and career opportunities. We look forward to many more initiatives like this in Madeira in the future.”

Approximately twenty students toured various areas of the ship, interacted directly with the captain, visited the engine control room and enjoyed lunch on board, during the Marella Explorer's stop in Madeira.

The visit was supported by Agência Ferraz, the cruise line's representative in the region, which plays a key role in coordinating this initiative. The Ports of Madeira intend to continue promoting similar activities. “Together with cruise lines like Marella Cruises, we are already planning future initiatives aimed at strengthening the relationship between the local community and the cruise sector,” concluded the president of APRAM.
