Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has officially begun construction of a new pier at its private Bahamas destination, Great Stirrup Cay.
“On January 24, we celebrated a significant milestone,” wrote Harry Sommers, the company’s president and CEO. “This exciting $150 million project will improve access to our world-class guest-rated destination.”.
In addition to the cruise company executives, several local dignitaries were present to celebrate the milestone, including the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Edward Davis MP KC, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Chester Cooper.
“By strengthening our presence in The Bahamas, we are delighted to create a deeper connection with the community and foster long-term opportunities for growth and sustainability,” Sommers wrote.
The company announced in April that it had plans to carry out infrastructure upgrades on Great Stirrup Cay, including the construction of a new pier that will increase the destination's capacity. Once the pier is completed, multiple ships will be able to dock at the island simultaneously.
