Melilla has been chosen to host the prestigious Excellence Cruise Awards gala on February 26, 2025.
Just days after it was announced that the city will receive 22 cruise ship calls this year, the Port of Melilla and the Department of Tourism's strong commitment to this type of tourism has resulted in the celebration of this gala, which since its inception in 2008 has already been held in cities such as Barcelona, Palma, Malaga, Cartagena, A Coruña, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The organizing company, Cruises News Media Group, has already confirmed that several national and international executives from cruise lines will attend, as well as representatives from the entire Spanish port system, shipping agents, tour operators, travel agents, press, collaborators, professionals and businesspeople from Melilla and other suppliers in the sector, who will enjoy a unique gala at the Kursaal Theatre followed by a cocktail dinner at the Assembly Palace.
Melilla will welcome numerous luxury cruise ships in 2025, beginning with the Seabourn Sojourn, which will arrive on February 26, the same date as the gala, and will return on March 4. Two other ultra-luxury vessels, the Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Navigator, are also expected to visit in April, on April 2 and 21, respectively. In May, the Ocean Victory, from the Spanish boutique cruise line Alma Cruceros, will make its first call, and will visit the city at least six times this year. Also in May, the Marina from Oceania Cruises will arrive, and the Marella Discovery will call in both July and September. It will undoubtedly be a historic year for the Port of Melilla, which will see its efforts to attract this type of traffic rewarded.
The winners of the Cruise Excellence Awards are chosen by cruise passengers and travel agencies through online voting, and they reward everything from the best ships, to the best onboard dining, the best itineraries, or even the best onboard entertainment, up to a total of 18 categories.
This eighteenth edition of the Excellence Cruise Awards has been promoted and sponsored by the Port Authority of Melilla and Melilla Tourism in collaboration with other public and private bodies such as State Ports.
