Royal Caribbean Group commissions the construction of a new ship for Celebrity Cruises

In 2028, Celebrity Cruises ' prestigious Edge series will receive its sixth ship. Following the delivery of the Celebrity Edge in 2018, the Celebrity Apex in 2020, the Celebrity Beyond in 2022, the Celebrity Ascent in 2023, and the Celebrity Xcel, which will depart from Saint-Nazaire at the end of October 2025, Chantiers de l'Atlantique will build Edge 6, currently named “Xcel 2”.

Royal Caribbean Group commissions the construction of a new ship for Celebrity Cruises“The Edge class has revolutionized premium cruising with its innovative design. Each ship in this multi-award-winning series has set new standards for the entire cruise industry. Celebrity Xcel, to be delivered this year, will be no exception,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “We are thrilled to partner with Chantiers de l’Atlantique on this sixth ship to deliver increasingly exceptional and responsible vacations to our guests.”.

“While we celebrated the addition of Celebrity Xcel to our fleet in November, we are eager to welcome its sister ship, Edge 6,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises. “Celebrity Xcel represents the quintessential Edge series ship. Seven new experiences have been refined by our newly appointed Xcel Dream Makers. This is an industry-first program: cruisers are consulted and make the final decisions on key aspects such as dining, interior design, and entertainment.”.

The new ship will incorporate iconic design elements from the Edge series, such as the Magic Carpet® and Infinite Veranda® cabins, as well as the latest technical solutions developed by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, aimed at continuously improving the environmental performance of the ships.

“This sixth ship marks the culmination of a pioneering series in the cruise industry, elegant, efficient and increasingly innovative, thanks in part to its methanol propulsion, introduced starting with the Celebrity Xcel,” added Laurent Castaing, CEO of Chantiers de l'Atlantique.

This order will be completed once the necessary financing is obtained.
