Ambassador Cruise Line, a Njord Partners portfolio company, and French cruise operator Compagnie Française de Croisières (“CFC”) have reached an agreement to merge, forming the “Ambassador Group.” This strategic combination marks the creation of a leading European cruise line in the affordable premium segment, focused on the senior market without flights. The transaction is expected to close by the end of January 2025.

Ambassador and Compagnie Francaise de Croisières de unen forming the Ambassador GroupWith Ambassador's success in the UK market and CFC's strong presence in the French flightless cruise sector, the combined operators provide a formidable platform for expanding the newly formed Ambassador Group's footprint in the European market. The cruise industry in Europe is expected to grow by 12% annually over the next five years. The group will leverage its premium and highly regarded offering to establish new destinations while delivering authentic and sustainable experiences to a broad audience.

The group will operate a fleet of three small-to-medium-sized ships, including Ambassador, Ambience , and Ambition, as well as Renaissance , which can accommodate 1,200 guests and has been completely refurbished following recent multi-million euro investments. Both Ambassador and CFC ships will continue to offer products tailored to their respective British and French markets, maintaining each brand's unique national identity to ensure every guest enjoys an unparalleled onboard experience that meets their expectations.

With a growing focus on sustainability within the cruise industry, the Renaissance will be upgraded with the latest environmental technologies after entering dry dock in January 2025, meeting IMO Tier III, just like its sister ships, which represent the Ambassador Group's high environmental standards and commitment to sustainable travel.

The Ambassador Group will launch a joint program of flight-inclusive Caribbean cruises in winter 2025/26 in partnership with Corendon, a leading European tour operator. With itineraries departing from October 2025 and homeports in Barbados, Martinique, and Curaçao, these cruises will combine source markets from the UK, France, and the Netherlands, marking the group's entry into the flight-in cruise market and expanding its year-round offerings. Further details of the Caribbean program, including itineraries, will be provided in the coming days.

The combined companies will achieve operational efficiencies through synergies, such as fleet management and procurement, while fostering growth opportunities for both onboard and shore-based personnel. The Ambassador Group will be majority-owned by Ambassador's current shareholders, Njord Partners, with Cheyne Capital holding a minority stake.

Christian Verhounig, CEO of Ambassador Cruise Line, commented: “The combination of Ambassador and CFC is a bold step toward our shared vision for the cruise industry. By uniting our strengths, we are creating an organization that delivers exceptional experiences to our guests while maintaining sustainable practices. Together, we will lead the way in offering affordable, high-quality, authentic, and environmentally responsible cruises.”
