National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has announced the addition of the Charaidew II, a 17-cabin ship, for two new itineraries in India beginning in March 2026. Designed with a shallow draft and low profile, the Charaidew II will allow exploration of areas upstream on the Brahmaputra River that were previously inaccessible.
The company will offer two unique itineraries:
- “India by Land and River: Taj Mahal, Safaris and the Brahmaputra”, an 18-day tour.
- “India Expedition: Kolkata, Kaziranga and the Brahmaputra River”, 11 days.
These new itineraries reflect National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions' commitment to exploration, combining unique cultural experiences and close contact with nature in one of Asia's most captivating destinations.
The 18-day itinerary combines the Assam region with destinations in northern India, including UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort of Agra. This program also includes jeep safaris through Bandhavgarh and Kaziranga National Parks, where travelers can observe one-horned rhinos, Asian elephants, and Bengal tigers.
The 11-day option focuses on eastern India, with a tour along the Brahmaputra River and visits to riverside communities. This itinerary includes a full day in Kolkata.
The Charaidew II features 17 air-conditioned cabins, including two Deluxe and 11 Standard cabins on the upper deck and four Standard cabins on the main deck. Amenities include a sundeck, mini-library, lounge, and fitness center. Guests are accompanied on excursions by an expedition team comprised of local naturalists and a National Geographic-certified photography instructor.
With the addition of the Charaidew II, Lindblad Expeditions' fleet now includes 21 ships: 12 owned and nine chartered, operating in more than 70 countries.
