Last November, TUI River Cruises celebrated the inauguration of its first riverboat on the Nile, the TUI Al Horeya, in style by launching 100 lit biodegradable candles into the river, thus marking the start of its journey in Luxor.
The blessing ceremony took place aboard the boat with a traditional prayer to Hapi, the god of the Nile, to bless the vessel with safe and prosperous voyages. Guests were able to make a personal wish with one of the biodegradable candles placed in coconut shells and received a papyrus gift inscribed with "Tui Al Horeya" in Arabic, crafted by local Egyptian artisans. These candles were then placed in the river to symbolize the blessing before the boat sailed to Luxor Temple.
During the evening, the TUI Al Horeya became a hub of activity with a live sand artist portraying the history of the Nile River, traditional Egyptian acts such as the Whirling Dervishes, a gala dinner, and live entertainment provided by the TUI River Cruises team.
The newly refurbished five-star TUI Al Horeya has now embarked on its maiden voyage along the Nile River. It will subsequently offer all-inclusive seven-night itineraries, sailing round trips from Luxor. The ship accommodates 141 passengers and features 72 cabins, including single, standard, and suite options. It also boasts a multifunctional hybrid upper deck that houses a swimming pool and two Jacuzzis during the day, and transforms into an al fresco dining space called the Felucca at night.
Each voyage will feature two Egyptologists on board, live entertainment from the TUI River Cruises team, and traditional whirling dervish performances and Nubian acts. The itinerary, called “Legends of the Nile,” includes stops in Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan, and a return to Luxor.
Katy Berzins, Director of TUI River Cruises, said: “The official maiden voyage of the TUI Al Horeya represents a huge milestone for TUI River Cruises, as it is the first ship to sail outside European waters. Since we launched our winter Nile program, we have sold 80% of the berths, and new bookings continue to come in week after week. We are excited to welcome passengers this cruise season.”
