The Star of the Seas, the second ship in Royal Caribbean International , left dry dock last week after 19 months of work and moved on to the interior outfitting phase ahead of its maiden voyage, scheduled for August 2025.
The shipyard highlighted some of the final stages of assembly, including the installation of Azipods and six engines. Like the Icon of the Seas, this vessel is dual-fuel, designed to operate on liquefied natural gas. They are also utilizing waste for heat recovery and air lubrication of the hull. Furthermore, the ship was crowned with a massive 367-ton dome—the largest glass and steel structure ever lifted onto a cruise ship.
The 364-meter-long, 248,600-gross-ton vessel is being built in Meyer Turku and occupies almost the entire length of the assembly dry dock. The valves were opened on September 25, and the vessel was floated for the first time. The forward gate of the dock was opened on September 27, and four tugboats towed it
more than 1,100 feet to position it alongside the equipment berth.
The Star of the Seas is the second ship in Royal's Icon class and will rival its sister ship as the world's largest cruise ship.
In February, the company delayed the Star of the Seas' entry into service by a few weeks, until the end of August 2025. When it enters service, it will sail year-round from Port Canaveral, Florida, offering seven-night cruises to destinations such as Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The cruise line is announcing nine "neighborhoods," each focused on elements such as outdoor recreation or families; six water slides and more than 40 places to eat or drink. It will have 20 decks (18 for passengers) with more than 2,800 cabins and a total capacity for approximately 7,600 passengers.
The Star of the Seas will operate seven-night cruises from Central Florida to destinations such as Perfect Day at CocoCay.
