For the first time working together, MedCruise and AIVP presented a publication entitled 'Cruise Port City Compass – Global cases inspiring sustainable connections & communities' during the “Seatrade Cruise Global” in Miami, Florida.

Noemi Frascella, Director of Port and City Relations at MedCruise, together with José Sánchez, Director of the AIVP's 2030 Agenda, have shared the results of extensive work with media, shipping companies and operators in the cruise sector.
This collaborative effort, driven by the “Cruises & Port Cities” working group, coordinated by MedCruise, the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports and the AIVP, has resulted in the first edition of the Port City Compass.
The publication, the result of interviews with 15 members of the working group, highlights best practices and initiatives from cruise ports in seven different countries, focusing on crucial issues such as environmental protection, the port-city interface, and governance. It also offers insights into different stages of development within the sector in cities like Trois-Rivière (Canada), Marseille (France), and Dubrovnik (Croatia).
The interviews illustrate the three distinct stages of development of the cruise sector within the context of port cities. In addition to port authorities and municipal governments, technical and infrastructure providers are key to building a sustainable relationship between the citizens of port and cruise cities, and two global leaders in their respective fields—Wabtec and Global Ports Holding—are also featured.
The Port City Compass aims to be a guiding tool for ports and communities, offering guidelines for sustainable growth and development. However, it also highlights the need for continued exploration, defining principles for sustainability, and promoting the participation of new stakeholders.
In this sense, it represents an important step towards a broader dialogue and more effective actions in the sustainable development of cruise tourism and port-city relations.
