MSC Cruises will have a new itinerary through the Canary Islands, aboard the MSC Opera, for autumn-winter 2024.
MSC Opera will operate cruises embarking in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This was shared yesterday by the company through a virtual press conference in which Fernando Pacheco, general manager of MSC Cruises in Spain, along with Beatriz Calzada, president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Furthermore, from now on, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria becomes the eighth embarkation port in Spain for MSC Cruises, joining the seven embarkation ports that the company already has: Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tarragona and Valencia.
Fernando Pacheco, Managing Director of MSC Cruises in Spain, stated: “2023 was an unprecedentedly successful year for us in Spain, and it reaffirmed our commitment to bringing our ships closer to our Spanish passengers.”
“Therefore, we are announcing today the strengthening of our commitment to the Canary Islands, by also opening Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as a port of embarkation, a step forward in our commitment to Spanish ports. Collaboration with the port and local authorities has been fundamental to achieving this, and I am always grateful for their support.”
Thus, Beatriz Calzada, the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, celebrated that the Port of Las Palmas will be a port of embarkation for MSC Cruises in 2024: “Great news,” the president noted, “which confirms MSC Cruises’ commitment to the Port of Las Palmas, specifically in the cruise sector, one of those experiencing the greatest boom in our port traffic.”
The President highlighted the company's efforts for the Port, which will allow some 80,000 tourists to visit the island with the MSC Opera, and added: "This is complemented by the future cruise terminal, which will improve the experience of cruise passengers in the capital of Gran Canaria."
For his part, the president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, recalled that “forthe Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, cruise traffic is an important part not only of the business of our ports but above all of the economy of our islands.”
Itinerary
The chosen itinerary for MSC Opera will be a 7-night cruise with stops in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, La Palma, and Funchal (Madeira). MSC Opera will sail to the Canary Islands from November 3rd to March 23rd, which will involve 21 embarkations on each island (Gran Canaria and Tenerife), 9 of them in 2024 and 12 in 2025.
MSC Cruises anticipates a successful year, thanks to a wide range of itineraries and ships to suit all types of travelers. Specifically, in 2023, MSC Cruises will make more than 600 port calls in Spain, bringing over 2.6 million tourists to the country.
