The Tarragona will offer cultural and gastronomic experiences for cruise ship passengers visiting the city.

Within the framework of FITUR 2024, Tarragona has presented an alliance with MSC Cruises to improve the experience of tourists who stop over in Port Tarragona and thus strengthen the collaboration together with the Patronat de Turisme de la Diputación, Costa Daurada and the maritime terminal Global Ports Tarragona.
Progress has also been reported on the construction work of the new maritime cruise terminal, promoted by Global Ports Tarragona, as a very important action to improve the experience of passengers arriving at or departing from Tarragona Cruise Port.
The partnership between Tarragona and MSC Cruises will allow passengers to enjoy unique experiences in the city. The Tarragona City Council, through its Tourism Board, will offer a wide range of cultural and gastronomic activities for tourists visiting the city.
Passengers will have the opportunity to discover the history and architectural heritage of the city, and other attractive sites and resources of the Costa Daurada, as well as its gastronomic culture linked to the land and the sea.
“We are very aware of the added value of quality cruise tourism and that is why we believe this strategic alliance with MSC Cruises and the tourism boards of Costa Daurada and Tarragona,” explained Montse Adan, Councilor for Tourism of Tarragona.
“This unique collaboration will substantially improve the experience of cruise passengers in our city and our territory, extending their adventure beyond the ship and giving them the opportunity to stay for a weekend to discover the treasures offered by a jewel of the Mediterranean, a World Heritage Site, such as the city of Tarragona,” added the councilor of the Tarragona city council.
Another attraction for Tarragona as a tourist destination, which will also improve comfort
and ease of embarkation and disembarkation, will be the new cruise terminal. Alba Colet, commercial manager of Global Ports Tarragona, explained that “this investment of 5.5 million euros will be ready by May 2024, and will represent an added level of quality and comfort for passengers.”
Fernando Pacheco, general manager of MSC Cruises in Spain, explained that the MSC Fantasia will arrive in Tarragona on Fridays,
giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy the weekend and explore the city and UNESCO heritage site, thanks to packages created by various entities in Tarragona.
According to Pacheco, “this alliance will serve to improve and complete the cruise experience of our passengers with a very enriching offer that will be a wonderful finale to their cruise week aboard the MSC Fantasia.”
Pacheco added that “the company’s commitment to Tarragona is very strong, both because of the region’s cultural, heritage and gastronomic offerings, and because of the institutional support received from the administrations and companies of the Costa Daurada.”
Carles Brull, president of the Tarragona Provincial Council's Tourism Board, emphasized that the collaboration with MSC Cruises "reinforces our commitment to positioning the Costa Daurada as a tourist destination for the cruise sector." The representative of the Tarragona Provincial Council stressed that "the diverse offerings and their enormous appeal allow visitors to enjoy a unique experience on the Costa Daurada."
According to Brull, “both the coast and the interior of the Costa Daurada offer the possibility of personalizing your visit thanks to its cultural offerings, which include the heritage and historical legacy of Tarragona, the Cistercian Route, the modernist architecture of the city of Reus, and the
Casteller Museum of Catalonia in Valls. The leisure options, such as PortAventura World and water sports, as well as a prestigious and distinctive gastronomy, add to the reasons and attractions for visiting the Costa Daurada.”
All the representatives who participated in the presentation highlighted the work being done by all the institutions, administrations and companies to create an attractive tourism offer for cruise ship passengers arriving in the city
of Tarragona who want to learn more about the region.
