The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz, Teófila Martínez Saiz, accompanied by the Councillor Delegate for Tourism of the City Council of Cádiz, Beatriz Gandullo, and the president of Cádiz Open Shopping Centre, José Amaya Vidal, presented the renewal of the mobile application DISCOVER CÁDIZ, developed by the port authority in 2019 to improve the experience of cruise passengers and crew arriving in the city of Cádiz.

This time, new routes and updated information on restaurants and shops have been added to make it more attractive and accessible to any citizen or tourist, not just cruise ship passengers.
The application was created for the Cruise Cadiz brand, which in turn was developed as a result of the feasibility study of Cadiz as a cruise home port.
The aim was to improve the experience of cruise passengers and crew arriving in the city and to help port companies improve the services offered to port users, as well as to further enhance the port's image in the specific cruise sector.
With the update, “we wanted to take another step and highlight the tourist potential of Cádiz so that visitors can choose one of the routes through Cádiz to discover the city, as well as request a taxi service or find out where the nearest taxi stand is,” explained Teófila Martínez.
“The main novelty of the update, however, is that it opens its use to tourism in general, not just cruise ship tourism. It is, therefore, a tool that the Port Authority offers to the city's tourists to improve their experience,” the Port President emphasized.
To promote it, stickers will be created and placed in the coming weeks in shops in the city center and in taxis.
Kate Bonner, the Port Authority's Commercial Director, who led the project, explained how the app's main feature is geolocation, which allows cruise passengers to know at all times where they are and how far away they are from any point of interest in the city and, most importantly, how far and how long they are from the cruise ship and how to get back to the dock.
The app also features an interactive map of Cadiz with the main points of interest and a virtual map of taxi stands and how to get to them, as well as including telephone numbers of taxi driver associations.
Regarding services, it includes wifi points, consulates, post offices, public toilets, tourist offices, hospitals, pharmacies, churches, bus lines, etc.
It also includes 7 routes through Cadiz, as well as routes through the province (wineries, museums, flamenco, beaches, etc.) and restaurants and shops.
The app is free and available for iOS and Android operating systems; it can be downloaded now from Google Play and the Apple Store in the language your phone is set to.
The Tourism Councillor, for her part, highlighted that the application adds to the services already offered by the City Council and reminded everyone that the city's tourism offering is not just sun and beach and that it also contributes to the goal of reducing seasonality.
Beatriz Gandullo agrees with the president of the Cádiz Open Shopping Centre association on the importance of improving the visitor experience so that they want to return, and that tools like Discover Cádiz contribute to this.
